Windows 10: Headset works but the microphone is not picking up any sound, how can I fix it?

My microphone on my headset stopped working but it was working fine a few days ago and even if I did do something to mess it up I tried a system restore to when it was working. I've also checked in settings but it says it working fine it's the default microphone and plugged in correctly. No sound shows up when I try to test my microphone and troubleshooting tells me it couldn't identify the problem. All the drivers are up-to-date as well.

Computer Not Using and or Not recognizing Headset Microphone

Recently I got a gaming headset but upon plugging in the headset my microphone jack, I realized my computer was not picking up audio from the headset mic. I have looked through other forums but I still cannot find a solution to this problem. I have looked at the sound settings and saw that under the recording category, It shows a second microphone device that is only accessible by plugging in my headset. But when doing so I've noticed that when talking into my headset mic the recordings menu does not show any signs of sound. But if I tap my headset the sound meter goes up. This makes me think that my computer only picks up sounds around the headset and not the mic itself.

Other Info
1) For my sounds, video and game controllers in the Device Manager I have High Definition Audio Device and Intel(R) Display Audio listed.
2) I have a windows 7 upgraded to windows 10

 

Sennheiser GSP 350. Microphone stops working when I open any game

Wow, ok. I think I've fixed it by accident while fiddling around.

It appears to be the Realtek audio being the issue here. I don't use my onboard sound card as my headset is a USB headset only and my speakers are plugged into an ASUS sound card.

Step by step fix:

• I went into recording devices
• I enabled STEREO MIX (Realtek High Definition Audio)
• Then I set that Stereo Mix as the DEFAULT DEVICE (At this point it took over both input and output devices without my permission )
• Then set my Sennheiser headset as default recording and playback devices in their respective windows even though they both still said they were the default devices when they weren't

Headset microphone is currently functioning while in game now. I'll update the thread if it goes again. Should I completely disable Realtek audio??? Or will windows just force it to work again?

 

Sound not Working and Windows 10 won't pick up my headset microphone.

Hello, the sound will stop working whenever I open a game. Like the game sound will stop working. It will work in the main menu of the game, then I get into a game and the audio for my whole computer will just stop. I tried like uninstalling the audio drivers
and all of that and it still doesn't work. This only happens when I am wearing a headset.

Another problem is that I am wearing a headset with a microphone built in and Windows 10 only picks up the speakers and not the microphone.
