Hearing popping in audio, not limited to just one device

I keep hearing pops in audio from games to music to movies, not application specific. I tried switching devices from my head set to the optical audio and same issue, so then I switched it to the hdmi audio and still was occuring. I did some hunting around and downloaded both dpc latency check and latencymon, both of which are reporting that there is indeed latency spikes in realtime audio. I'm not terribly sure what to do next as I have unplugged everything several times and taken the battery out and booted up again only to still have the issue. I have a pny gtx 770, logitech g933 headset and the optical audio is just hooked up to my receiver, cpu is amd fx-8350 and I have an asus rog crosshair formula-z motherboard.

  3. How to change settings of which device is plugged into audio jack?

Whenever I plugged in my earphones, the notification would pop saying "You just plugged a device into the audio jack" With this, a window would pop up saying what kind of device I had plugged in and
would give out the options: headphones, earphones, headphones with microphone, etc.

I clicked on headphones with microphone and ticked the box "don't show this message again". But now, whenever I Skype with someone, they can hear the videos and music I'm listening too even with my earphones
    plugged in.

How do I change the device from headset with microphone to just earphones? How can I make this pop up window open up again whenever I plug something into the audio jack? How can I change the settings?

Here's a picture as an example to what kind of pop up window I'm talking about:

    Welcome to the TenForums @Ornocarbo

Before you proceed please ensure your data is backed up. It may also be good to create an Image using Macrium Reflect. Better safe than sorry.

Can you please confirm you are running the latest BIOS from Asus. Updating a BIOS does present a risk to your system, please update if you are prepared to take that risk. Yours is the final decision.

Have you updated your storage, audio and chipset drivers.

Are you overclocking? If you back it off does the popping continue?

In the TenForums there is a driver verify tutorial to stress your drivers. It very will will cause a BSOD. Yes I saw your analysis, ATAPort.sys. Is this a symptom or a root cause? I would try this. Read warnings.

Driver Verifier - Enable and Disable in Windows 10

You must then follow the BSOD Posting instructions in the first Sticky post.

I had popping noises some year's ago and it was the headset. Little hairs get inside the drivers and cause interference. You could consider taking the cups apart to clean them.

I think because this is happening on more than one device, this may be the case.
