  1. Hello I am trying to figure out why my pc keeps shutting down. I have looked at the Event...

Every couple of days, I come back to my laptop after taking a short nap and I find it has shut down. The Event Viewer says Event 41, Kernel - Power. Not sure what else to look for to diagnose the cause of the issue. Can someone direct me on where to look in the Event Viewer or elsewhere? Thanks in advance

    :)

  2. PC does not shut down requires forece shut down

    Hello,

We really appreciate your patience. Let me give you few more troubleshooting steps which might apply to your situation and ascertain the cause of the issue.

    • Try removing all the external peripheral devices including all usb drives except keyboard, mouse and monitor and check.
    • Try to shut down the computer while forcing the running applications and check the results in the subsequent restart. Follow the below steps.

    • Press Windows key + X, select
Command prompt (Admin) to bring up elevated Command prompt.

    • In Command prompt type
shutdown -s -f and press enter.

If it still does not help, try to view the Event IDs in Event Viewer to check for specific events triggering the issue.

To view activities in Windows, I suggest you to open the Event Viewer. To do so, follow the below steps.

    • Go to the Control Panel and choose to click on the
      Administrative Tools icon.
    • The above action will open up a new window of the Administrative Tools where you will see the
      Event Viewer.

Please write to us with the results.

    Thank you.

PC only shuts down on a second try

    Hello,

I posted here yesterday asking for help on a similar problem yesterday: GPU keeps working (fans spinning) for a few seconds after shutdown - Windows 10 Forums

Basically, what happens now is as follows: When I press shutdown from start menu and the PC screen goes black at the end of it, I can hear components stopping their work, but pretty much all fans keep working (PSU fan, case fans, GPU fans). They work for 20-30 seconds and then I hear a Mobo beep (the same one you hear when you turn on your PC) and the PC boots back like it's nothing. When I reach login screen and shut down again from there, the PC fans again keep spinning after components turn off, but only a few seconds this time. The PC components then turn on and immediately turn off together with the fans.

Sorry for the poor phrasing, English is not my native language and I try my best here.

This complicated double-take shut down process only began after I disabled fast startup in Windows 10 (some guys on various forums suggested that I do that). Before I disabled them, the problem was like the one I linked to in the beginning. The whole problem started after I installed a second HDD. During the installation I also removed the GPU to allow me to fix some cables.

Besides the shut down, the PC seems to be working just fine. No crashes, no BSODs - nothing. Only this strange shut down.

    Things I've already tried:
    • Disabling fast startup
    • Removing my second hard drive
    • Changing its SATA plugs
    • Changing SATA cables
    • Changing HDD power connector cables
    • Removing and putting back the GPU
    • Updating chipset driver
    • Shutting down from login menu

PC Keeps Shutting down by itself

    Thanks Dalchina.

The PC shuts down abruptly in that it says it is shutting down and it shuts down. It seems like it is performing a good shut down. The problem is getting it restarted. I am typing this on a different machine as I cannot get the desktop to start up again. It will get to various points, ie the login screen, I get past the login in screen and then it shuts down. As of right now, when it shuts down, it then goes into the loop I found it in yesterday. It keeps trying to start up but there is no post and the machine goes dead and then a few seconds later, it tries to power up. Annoying.

I will try your suggestions if I can get it to start up again. I have not run any of the tests you suggested. I did do a reset when I had it up and running for about 30 minutes and shortly after the reset, it shut down and then started looping... trying to start, powering down, over and over.

I have not made any changes to RAM. I did remove the two RAM sticks and then reseat them. When I replaced them, I swapped them. That should not matter as they are both 4Gb sticks.

I have had issues with this PC. The power supply died a few months ago and I had it replaced by a technician. It was running fine until the past couple of days.

    I am not over clocking

Is there a program that will create a boot disk with the OS on it? I wan to give that a try.
