Hello! I have a problem with Windows OS. I changed the processor and motherboard on the computer, but at the same time I lost the activation key for Windows 10. Now I do not receive updates and cannot upgrade to Windows 11, although the computer configuration allows me to do so. Previously, initially, I purchased the official version of Windows 7, then Windows 8, after the release of Windows 10, I officially upgraded to this version. there are activation keys for Windows 7 and Windows 8. all operating systems were installed on only one computer and under one account. now how do I get the corre

  2. Microsoft account says I have a registered Windows 10 device but will not activate after motherboard swap

Hello! I just got a new motherboard and processor and I have attempted the following steps to reactivate my Windows but it will not reactivate. What can I do next?

    • Attempted to activate via Activation screen in settings (no options to activate)
    • Ran troubleshooter from Activation screen and the troubleshooter failed with code 0xc004f213
    • Attempted to recover key from OS via VBS script (returned key was all BBBBB-BBBB...)
    • Confirmed machine is listed under my microsoft account, where the key listed there is "default string".
    • Ran through an additional online troubleshooter from Microsoft for this problem and it suggested i submit a ticket.
I'm not surprised that I've run into a licensing problem, as I upgraded in-place when Windows 10 conversions were free from Microsoft, from a very old version of Windows 7 which I acquired legitimately via university. I do not have access to the original Windows 7 key, nor did I receive a key for Windows 10 from the 7-to-10 conversion. That does not change the fact that the version of Windows was activated and verified before the motherboard change and the machine is still listed on my microsoft account.

  3. Can't reactivate windows after motherboard and processor change.

Recently purchased a new motherboard and cpu for my system.

After change motherboard and booting windows I as expected get error code: 0xC004F211 (Windows detected hardware change).

When trying to troubleshoot and selecting "I recently changed hardware on this device" I'm left with a message that I couldn't connect to Microsoft servers for activation. It's been like this for several days now and I have a hard time thinking their servers
    never are available.

To answer some questions before you ask them:

    • Windows licence came from a free windows 8 upgrade which later became a free windows 10 upgrade.
    • I have not deactivated any kind of services and I have the latest version of windows available. (I even put my original motherboard and processor in to reinstall a clean version of windows, activated it on that system and then switched hardware again).
    • I have changed motherboard once before a couple (2 - 3?) years ago since I somehow managed to break only a motherboard.

Since there is no online messaging to an agent for me to use and I don't have the balls to actually call an agent I'm asking you guys for help.

ps: please help, I hate the light theme that I cannot change Hello! I have a problem with Windows OS. I changed the processor and motherboard on the... :(

Hello! I have a problem with Windows OS. I changed the processor and motherboard on the...

What's the difference between these two processors.

the first one is stepping E3, the second one is stepping E6. whats stepping?

No processor design is perfect. The first version of a new microprocessor product is the A-0 step. Later, as improvements are made to the product for functional (bug) fixes or manufacturing improvements, the stepping number will increase.

Generally speaking, minor changes result in an increased number, (that is, A-1 to A-2) while more complex changes result in the letter being changed (that is, A-2 to B-0).

If new steppings come out with fewer bugs you are usually not eligible to RMA for a newer processor. Most of these bugs are supposed to be worked around in the motherboard design, BIOS (drivers), and applications.

Intel produces a detailed document called a "Specification Update" for each of their processor models that covers all of the various steppings, and lists exactly which bugs (they call them "errata") each one has and a description of the bug. For example you can download the Pentium IV specification Update from Intel at http://developer.intel.com/design/pentium4/specupdt/
A similar document is available for every processor they make.

AMD uses the term "revision numbers" to refer to steppings for its Athlon and other processors. To see the errata for a given AMD processor, look up its revision guide, which lists the processor revision numbers and the errata which apply to each revision. For example, the revision guide for the AMD Athlon XP model 8 processor is available from AMD at
    http://www.amd.com/us-en/assets/content_type/white_papers_and_tech_docs/25703.pdf

what does this all mean, well you are likely to have less compatablity problems with the newer version of the processor, but as most motherboard manufactures are good with bios updates, this should not be a problem.
