  1. Help addressing driver that caused driver related BSOD ATTEMPTED SWITCH FROM DPC

I had a post prior but forgot the login already haha. It was about my steelseries keyboard and then a separate one that was related to my GPU but i have since gotten a new PC that only shares my GPU. I need some help with figuring out the driver that caused these crashes to try and single out of the few USB devices I have plugged in. This only started on this new PC since i had plugged in my external drive but the crashes happen since unplugging it too.Thank you so much for the help and have a great day!DUMP

    :)

    BSOD "Attempted Switch From DPC"

    Hello A&K

I've uninstalled and reinstalled all the drivers I could find within Control Panel -> Uninstall or change a program.

Everything seems to be functioning normally. Before I did this I used command prompt to run "sfc /scannow" and according to the log file generated by this scan there were 3 files that were corrupted and then repaired. I've attached a OneDrive link to the image below for you to see. All 3 of these files were .sys files that were located in my System32 folder, and all 3 were related to my BlueTooth system. I've always had BlueTooth turned off ever since I got this PC just under 3 weeks ago. I don't know how long these 3 files had been corrupted.

Is it possible my BSOD Attempted Switch From DPC was caused by these corrupted drivers?

Thank you very much for your help,

    -DG

  3. BSOD Windows Stop Code: Attempted switch from DPC

You're very welcome Jari, please mark the appropriate reply as the answer or as solved your problem, it can then more easily help others.

I strongly suggest that you go to the Lenovo support site and check for and install the most current updates for Windows 10 compatibility and performance for your device, there are many of them, in fact a good number of them were issued on 3/8/18 including,
among others, a Synaptics touchpad driver, BIOS, Chipset, LAN.... Also there are some others that were issued in late 2017 as well, so check them all for applicability. Here is a direct link to the support site for your device (I assumed Win
10 64bit, if 32bit choose that). If you need help with this let just us know.

    https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/us/en/...Product&searchType=5&keyWordSearch=20DL000SMS

Below is a nutshell explanation of what was causing the BSOD error:

This error is caused by a delayed procedure call (DPC) routine that attempted to perform an illegal operation. DPC allows high-priority tasks to load before lower priority tasks on Windows. When the error occurs, the computer is restarted to prevent damage
to Windows and hardware components of the computer.

The DPC is triggered when the kernel detects a hung condition and makes a call to terminate or interrupt a software. It means that a yield, attach process, or a wait operation was executed from a DPC routine.

This error is usually caused by a faulty device driver, faulty hardware, or problems in some other software.

(Faulty RAM and antivirus software have also been linked to the “ attempted switch from dpc ” error.)

Let us know how it does and good luck!

    DPC Watchdog Violation BSOD

    Dear Bill F Curtis,

    Welcome to the Microsoft Community

Thank you for reaching out about the recurring DPC Watchdog Violation BSOD error you've been experiencing. I understand how frustrating it can be to encounter such issues regularly. Based on the information you've provided, it seems like the error is related to the ACPI.sys driver, specifically pointing to ACPIInterruptEventCompletion.

The DPC Watchdog Violation error typically occurs when a Deferred Procedure Call (DPC) exceeds the permitted time limit, leading to a system crash (Blue Screen of Death or BSOD). The ACPI.sys driver manages Advanced Configuration and Power Interface functionalities in Windows, which are critical for power management and device enumeration.

To further diagnose and resolve this issue, I recommend the following steps:

Steps to Resolve DPC Watchdog Violation Error:

    1. Update Drivers: Ensure all your drivers, especially the ACPI-related ones, are up to date. Outdated or corrupted drivers can often cause such errors. Please download the latest adapted driver from the hardware manufacturer's website and install it.
    2. Check for BIOS Update: Sometimes, BIOS updates include fixes for ACPI-related issues. Visit your computer manufacturer's website to check if there's a BIOS update available for your specific model. Follow the manufacturer's instructions carefully when updating the BIOS.
    3. Run Windows Memory Diagnostic: Memory issues can also contribute to DPC Watchdog Violation errors. Run the Windows Memory Diagnostic tool to check for memory problems:
      • Press Windows key + R, type mdsched.exe, and press Enter.
      • Choose to restart and check for problems.
    4. Disable Overclocking (if applicable):If you've overclocked your CPU or GPU, revert to default settings temporarily. Overclocking can sometimes destabilize system components and lead to BSOD errors.

If the issue continues despite these steps, it might be beneficial to consult with a qualified technician who can perform more in-depth diagnostics.

Please let me know how these steps work for you or if you have any further questions. We're here to assist you further.
