Windows 10: [help] apps not launching but running in background with little resource

hey there, recently I've installed to windows 10 because i had issues on windows 7, but recently, i just wanted to check wether my save data is there or not. for some reason most of my apps did not work! they apparently did not launch, even with administrator settings. i thought i lacked some sort of driver or whatnot, so i got openAL, directX, and trying to get VCredist to install but that didnt launch. its just running in background and whatnot. the games i play are 32-bit applications and i am running a 64 bit computer. it really has been troubling me. if you have any questions feel free to ask away. thank you.

Apps running in Background

Hi JonBlann,

Windows 10 allows some apps to run in the background even if you never open it. This would let the applications to update itself or to get you notified with what's new with the app. However, this would consume most of your battery, bandwidth, and system
resources.

You can refer to the steps below on how to disable apps from running in the background:

1. Go to Settings > Privacy > Background apps.
   
2. Under Background apps, toggle off the Let apps run in the background switch to disable all apps that come from Microsoft Store. If you want to disable only a specific app, then you can toggle off the switch next to the
   app under Choose which app can run in the background.

Photos app hogging resources in background

Ian, this suggestion was posted on my other thread:

We understand that not all of users are using the Photos app on Windows 10, if not very often. If you don't want this app to be running on background when not in use, there is a way you can turn this
off. Kindly follow the steps provided below:

• In Cortana, type Privacy Settings
  and press Enter.
• Look for Background apps.
• Look for Photos in the list.
• Flip the switch to Off.
• Restart your computer.

After you restart your computer, you can check if the Photos app is still running in background. You can use these steps to turn off any running background applications as it is not limited to Photos
app alone. In this way, you can conserve a lot of power and process allowance.

I just followed these instructions, and now have to wait to see if it works. I'm hoping it solves your problem, too!

 

Games won't launch and run in background.

Please do let us know with the following information for better assistance:

• What exactly do you mean by games does not run in the background?
• Which are the games you are trying to launch?
• Were you able to see any error code/ error notification while trying to launch the game?
• Have you tried any troubleshooting steps?

I would like to inform that the Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable x86,
usually occupy 1 GB of the storage space.

I suggest you to run disk cleanup to free the memory: Free up drive space in Windows 10
and check.
