Help! Backlit keyboard remains on when computer is powered off despite device manager settings.

My ThinkCenter M720s running Win11 has 8 USB slots, 4 in the back and 4 in the front. I have the keyboard & mouse plugged into the back along with a portable hard drive. Device manager has the following listed:1st: Intel USB 3.1 eXtensible Host Controller - 1.10 Microsoft and is set to allow computer to turn off device to save power.2nd: USB Composite Device and there is no power management option.3rd & 4th are USB Mass Storage Device, but I only have one external harddrive plugged in. Maybe the other is the LG DVD player that is plugged in. Both have power management set to computer

    :)

  2. keyboard backlite

    Hi Carmine,

If your device has a backlit/backlight keyboard, there is usually a special key on it to turn the light on and off. Just to ensure that we'll arrive at a proper resolution, we'd like to get answers to the following questions:

    • May we know the make and model of the device that you're using? Also, please indicate if you're having difficulties turning it back due to a recent software update or changes made on your computer.
    • Have you checked your device manufacturer's user guide to verify if there's a function key or a BIOS setting to disable/enable the keyboard backlight?

    backlit keyboard and calculator problem

    Bree,

I attempted the BIOS edit again. Here are the details:
    • Mouse cursor is not available. All navigation is via arrows and F (function) keys. (My other Dell has the mouse feature.)
    • There is no GENERAL tab; rather there is a MAIN tab.
    • There is no + for expand or contract the menu.
    • Using the down arrow, I cannot navigate beyond system date.
    • Checking all the other tabs revealed no keyboard related options.
    • on the MAIN tab keyboard is indicating backlite.
Additionally I searched for driver updates using Windows update, Device Manager search for newer driver versions, and the manufacturer's web site and found that I have the latest version. In Device Manager uninstalling keyboard driver and rebooting resulted in no change.

    What next?

Mouse/touch pad and keyboard wakes laptop up and power management tab missing?

    Hi,

    Welcome to Microsoft Community.

As per the description, I understand that you are trying to disable keyboard and touchpad to wake the computer from sleep.

As you are missing the Power Management tab in driver properties, I suggest you to follow the steps provided below and update the keyboard and touchpad drivers.

    To update keyboard drivers,

    • Press Windows key + X and select Device Manager from the list.
    • Expand ‘Keyboard’ from the list.
    • Right click on the driver and select ‘update driver software’.
    • Follow the on-screen prompts to update the driver.

    To update touchpad drivers,

    • Type Device Manager in the Search box and press Enter.
    • Expand Mice and other pointing devices.
    • Right Click on the driver and select Update Driver Software.
    • Follow the on-screen prompts to update the driver.

Hope this helps. Keep us posted on the status for further assistance.
