Windows 10: Help: Computer freezes when watching VIDEOS

Hello Everyone,

Since I updated/upgraded my computer to Windows 10 (from Windows 7) my computer freezes very often when watching videos. At first I thought it was a bad installation (garbage left out from my Windows 7 since I had not formatted my computer in a long time). Last month, I did a fresh installation of Windows 10 Pro 64bit and the same thing happens.

When watching videos in the Hulu or Netflix windows App (not the browser) the computer freezes after few minutes of watching any video. Also, when I use video players like Klite Media Player Classic, after watching few episodes, when I click to go to the next episode the computer freezes.

I'm guessing the problem are the video cards, but I want you guys to let me know what you think. My graphic cards are 2x "512MB ATI Radeon HD 3600 Series (Sapphire/PCPartner)" whose later driver they supported was for Windows 8. My computer installed the driver updated by Microsoft (not the manufacturer) for Windows 10. I have three monitors on this computer.

I still suggest you download Speccy and upload a copy of the report it produces to OneDrive. To obtain a report select File,
Save as Text file. It helps to obtain the report at a time when the system is under pressure and temperatures may be higher than normal

Computer freezes when watching videos

I think I have actually solved the problem.

I removed my wifi card and am now just using a wifi dongle that was lying around. I can't be sure the problem is completely gone, but Task Manager says I've got 6 hours and 40 mins of up time and during that time I have been watching a lot of Youtube, computer
has been idle for other times, screen saver has been on sometimes, and I've done some general web browsing too.

I don't think there's anything wrong with the wifi card as it was working fine in another machine, and it was also working fine in my motherboard on Ubuntu 16.04.

Motherboard is Intel DH61BE with a Pentium G630 and 4GB ram. With the wifi card installed (TP-Link TL-WN851ND) the freezes would happen, but now that I've removed it and am using just the dongle (D-Link AirPlus G DWL-G122 Wireless USB Adapter(rev.C)) I am
having no issues.

 

Have a look at your 'Reliability History', ctrl pnl> security and maintenance>maintenance.For the red-flagged items,you need to select 'View tech details'.If the only option given is 'Check for a solution',then RIGHT click on it,this will give the 'View tech details' option.Left click on it.
A data page will open and to get any available solution,use the lines:
problem event name
code
bucket ID
to search Microsoft and or Google.Freezing is more often caused by a display adapter and often,but NOT always solved by a driver replacement.

 

Well, I would definitely use the AMD driver instead of the Windows one.

I just opened the Reliability Monitor and see one entry in red
Critical Event = Windows , Shut down unexpectedly, <date> Check for solution.
I clicked on check for solution and it says: "No new solution found" "When solutions are available, they will appear in Security and Maintenance"

...[/quote] I installed the drivers in Windows 7/8 compatibility mode to see if it solved anything, but the results are the same. It keeps freezing when watching videos (including youtube videos in 720p or higher).


If anyone thinks that the problem is something else besides the video-graphic cards, please let me know.

I am about to order new graphics cards to replace my current cards. These new cards do support windows 10 and have drivers available. Do you have any thoughts regarding this card?

Did you RIGHT click on ;check for a solution;? Left clicking on it is a waste of time.If there was a solution,then there shouldn't be a problem.

 

The card you mention should be o.k., at least for watching videos. You have checked for a BIO's and/or chipset update correct? I see that your chipset has integrated graphics, have you tried watching videos with your cards out? If so what was the result?

forgot to mention,I use an Nvidea card GT 710 and have occasional freezes.The problem is "nvlddmkm.sys".If you Google or search Nvidea,it is very common and there is no definite fix,so far anyway.

 

Try this: watch a youtube video with google chrome, when the pc freeze restart in safe mode, run google chrome, google chrome should ask to restore the previous session, click ok. The bug should reproduce but instead of the freeze it will be a bsod. You can install who crashed before running a youtube video.
Otherwise if it does not work, look at the ethernet driver or wifi, a new old or unofficial.

 

I tried right clicking to find a solution but did not get any solution. I tried watching youtube till it freeze and restore chrome with the computer in safe mode but it did not crash again. I gave up on trying to solve the problem and through the blame at the graphics card. I just bought two new graphic cards (that I mentioned above) and it no longer crashes. My computer is working perfectly now.

Also, as a comment, my motherboard does not have integrated graphics.
