  1. [help] ! I can't boot with driver signature enforcement on

Today I rebooted and ended up in an endless autorepair loop. Unfortunately I can't roll back to a good system restore point due to an error: System Restore failed to replace the file ...\Dropbox\.dropbox.cache\abunchofshit\placeholder.bat (0x80070780) - apparently a known error with dropbox's smart sync.

I can boot without driver signature enforcement turned on.

The only change I made to the system since my last successful boot was to install the latest NVIDIA game-ready driver ( 461.09 ). I manually rolled back to the previous driver (460.89), which I used previously without trouble (clean install), but it still can't boot without disabling driver signing enforcement.

Any brilliant ideas? I'm really struggling and I need this machine for work.

  2. Driver Signature Enforcement

    Hello Ajin,

Thank you for posting your query in Microsoft Community.

I'd like to confirm that once the driver signature enforcement is disabled, it will be automatically enabled after you restart the computer.

Follow the steps to disable driver signature enforcement:

    • Press the Win + C and click on PC settings.
    • Switch over to the “Update & recovery” section.
    • Then click on the Recovery option on the left hand side.
    • Once selected, you will see an advanced startup section appear on the right hand side. You will need to click on the “Restart now” button.
    • Once your Computer has rebooted you will need to choose the Troubleshoot
      option.
    • Then head into Advanced options.
    • Then Startup Settings.
    • Since we are modifying boot time configuration settings, you will need to restart your computer one last time.
    • Here you will be given a list of startup settings that you can change. The one we are looking for is “Disable driver signature enforcement”. To choose the setting, you will need to press the
      F7 key.

I hope this helps you. If you have any further queries, feel free to contact us. We will be happy to help you.

    Thank you.

    Hi Barbara,

To resolve this issue, let's use the command prompt to disable driver signature enforcement permanently on your computer. To disable, follow the steps below:

    • Click the Start button.
    • On the search bar, type Command Prompt and then right-click
      Command Prompt
      in the results.
    • Select Run as Administrator, and then select Yes.
    • On the command prompt, enter bcdedit.exe /set nointegritychecks on and press
      Enter.
    • Restart your computer.

[help] ! I can't boot with driver signature enforcement on

How to disable driver signature enforcement permenently.

    Hi Ashan,

Driver Signature Enforcement is one of the security features that we make to make sure that only signed drivers can load on your system. Take note that disabling driver signature enforcement will install drivers that weren’t officially signed. To disable
driver signature enforcement permanently, you can follow the steps below:

    • Open an elevated Command Prompt. To do this, press the Windows
key, type Command Prompt, press right click on the
      Command Prompt and select Run
      as administrator.
    • Type or paste the following:

      bcdedit.exe /set nointegritychecks on
    • Restart your computer.

If you want to enable the driver signature enforcement, just follow the steps above and type or paste the following:

    bcdedit.exe /set nointegritychecks off

Should you need further assistance, don't hesitate to get back to us.
