    Help I can't copy files or drag and drop on 20h2


    I am having issues copying files to and from hdd or external flash drive . After I drag a file let's say from a flash drive to the desktop windows explorer flash like I'm snapping to full screen but files doesn't copy over happens visa versa - how can I fix this issue this is a fresh install of windows with all updates.

    Drag and Drop

    Hi Charles,

    the steps you suggested didn't work for me but, when pressing the escape key it somehow expanded the drive and by using drag and drop to the single file in the list worked.

    In the past I could drag and drop multiple folders onto the drive on the network computer(s). Doing it on individual folders will take far too long and time consuming and is not an option.

    Microsoft should be able to identify what is blocking it and issue a fix.

    My machine is multi boot so tomorrow I will try with Windows 7.

    Hi,

    I am Vinu, an Independent Advisor and a Microsoft user like you. I will try to help you with this issue.

    Drag and Drop will never delete the source file in case of Windows, it will copy the file to the new location, but also keeping the source in the card. But when you directly drag and drop to some other application, there is a risk, that application will not
    create a copy of your file, it might add your file in the card to a new project and directly start working on that.

    What I would suggest, in case of these important files is, first copy and paste them from your card to a folder in windows, say, working directory. Then add the files to other programs from there. Hope this helps.

    Drag and Drop

    When using "Drag and Drop":
    • "Alt + left mouse button" to create a Link/Shortcut
    • "Ctrl + left mouse button" to Copy the file
    • "Shift + left mouse button" to Move the file
