Windows 10: Help manual DNS setting having no effect

Hi
Changing DNS in network settings has no effect and continues to use the router DNS settings.
I am using a smart DNS to watch some US tv and I can make it work if I change the router DNS settings but this is not as convenient as using an app like DNS changer on windows.
If I go into network settings I can see the DNS has been changed to manual but for some reason is not being used.
It worked great on windows 8.1.

Hmm! The DNS setting, normally gotten from your ISP, effects the computer communications, therefore if you add another User Profile, I don't see how that would have any effect on the DNS?

Tether not working on Laptop

HI, have you tried manually setting the dns server address on your laptop to Google's public dns (8.8.8.8) for example?

I noticed that everything but the domain name resolving worked on my 800 and adding a manual dns address on my laptop helped. Not really so much an solution as it is a workaround.

 

Maybe you need to do an ipconfig /flushdns after the change?

 

Try disabling DNS Cache service altogether, it is a security risk and causes problems anyway.

sc config Dnscache start= disabled
net stop Dnscache

I use it to switch between DHCP & OpenDNS
Works like a charm

 

Thanks Guys for all your suggestions but sadly nothing is working.
robgr, I tried that mate and although it sets the DNS it doesn't actually use it, I think something is messed up upgrading from windows 8.1

 

Is your router running the latest firmware? (at least try a reboot)
It's as though the router is blocking DNS (port 53) but usually when this happens you see errors
Try MiniToolBox (check 'Select All') and hit Go'
