Windows 10: Help me see what's taking up the hard drive space

Hey guys

I have a 512GB storage laptop... but I have just seen that it's somehow split into a smaller C drive and a larger D drive...


I guess my default, things are saving to the C drive as it's almost full. But I am surprised I have got that much stuff? How can I see? Can I specify stuff to save to the D Drive? Where would my Documents folder be?

Windows might have been accumulated large drive space due to installed apps, temporary files, or etc. For us to identify which item mostly accumulates your drive space, we suggest that you check it here:

• Click on Start.
• Type Storage, and then press Enter.
• Under Local Storage, click on This
  PC (C.
• On this window, you will see which item mot accumulate your drive space.

We also recommend that you follow the steps given on this article on how to
free up drive space in Windows 10. Click on every drop down to view the steps.

System Taking Like All of my space ._.

Windows File Explorer is not great at finding out where your hard drive space is being used . . .

• Click HERE to download a small free utility Called TreeSize.
  
• Run that utility as Administrator
• Point it to your C Drive
• Let the list of files/folders build
• Expand out the folder(s) that are taking all your hard drive space
• Please provide a screenshot of the resulting window in order for us to make a better analysis of what is happening with your system and suggest a remedy

 

Copied file takes 2x hard drive space

Thanks for the update on the issue.

I suggest you to run chkdsk on the disk to check the hard drive for errors. To do so, follow the steps below:

• Press Start button.
• Type cmd. Right click on the command prompt and select "Run as Administrator"
• Type the following command and hit enter.

chkdsk /f /r

Note: If you get a prompt o continue upon restart, press Y and hit enter.

Disclaimer: While performing chkdsk on the hard drive if any bad sectors are found on the hard drive when chkdsk tries to repair that sector if any data available
on that might be lost
