Windows 10: Help! My taskbar search isn't searching the web anymore.

I'm not sure if it's just my laptop but my taskbar search isn't searching the web anymore. It only searches through my local files and programs. I've tried researching the problem on the internet but nothing came up besides indexing (which I've tried). Not being able to casually click the windows key and search the web within the taskbar is pretty frustrating. I have to actually open up the browser first before I can do anything.



Nothing shows up unless it's a file or program.



It doesn't even calculate simple arithmetic anymore

Taskbar web search results

While it has nothing really to do with the taskbar, it just your web searches to return screen reader friendly results

From the Edge Webpage:

"Search for anything on the web or your device using the search box on the Windows taskbar. If you use a screen reader, follow these steps to make the web search results open in Internet Explorer instead of Microsoft Edge"

Meanwhile, to help resolve your concern, we suggest that you run the System file checker and DISM tool to fix issues with corrupted system files that may be causing the issue. To do this, follow these steps:

• Press Windows Key + X on your keyboard.
  
• Choose Command Prompt (Admin).
  
• Type or copy these commands followed by hitting Enter:
  
  sfc /scannow
  
  dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth

Disable Store and Web search in Start Menu

Since the steps above did not work for you, we suggest that you disable web search by navigating the settings of Cortana itself. Please follow the steps below:

• Open the search box in the taskbar.
• Click the Notebook icon.
• Click Settings from the list.
• On the Settings page, turn off the Cortana can give me suggestions, ideas, reminders, alerts and more option.
