Windows 10: Help needed trying to run Defender on Windows 10

Question #1: Where can I find the official Microsoft user’s manual for Window 10’s Defender?I have just wasted 2 weeks of my life due to reading 2nd hand, incomplete, misleading instructions and tutorials. Most of the stuff on the internet often amounts to what someone does when “X” happens to them. What I need is a

I would suggest you to try the below methods and check:

Method 1:

I would suggest you to run virus scan to make sure the computer is free from virus.

The Microsoft Safety Scanner is a free downloadable security tool that provides on-demand scanning and helps remove virus, spyware, and other malicious software. It works with your existing antivirus software.

Method 2:

Turn the Defender on. Follow the below steps:

• In search, type Defender.
• Now make the option ON by moving the slider accordingly.

Method 3: Run the SFC.

Follow the below steps:

• Open Command Prompt.

• Select “Run as Administrator”.
• Type “sfc /scannow” without quotes and hit
  Enter.

Now check for the issue.

• Do you get any error message while running full scan using Windows Defender?

I would suggest you to follow the methods given below and check.

Method 1:

Set Windows Defender service to Automatic - You can set the Windows Defender service to Automatic, if it is Disabled or Manual. Setting it to automatic might solve the problem. Follow these steps:

• Click Start > type services in the Search box > click Services in the Programs list.
• Search for Windows defender.
• Double-click Windows Defender, and click Automatic in the start-up box > click OK.

If issue still persists try method 2,

Method 2:

You can try turning the Windows Defender off manually and check if it helps. Refer to the following steps:

• Press "Windows logo key + Q", and type defender in the search box.
• Click Windows defender in the search list.
• Click Settings tab.
  
  
  
  
• Click Administrator, select or clear the Turn on this app check box, and then click
  Save Changes.
  
  If you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide
  confirmation.
• Restart the computer and check with the issue.

Note: Turn Windows Defender On using the same steps.

Sorry for the delayed reply. I suggest you to Set Windows Defender to Automatic - You can set the Windows Defender service to Automatic, Disabled or Manual. Setting it to automatic might solve the problem. Follow these
steps:

• Click Start > type services in the Search box > click Services in the Programs list.
• Search for Windows defender.
• Double-click Windows Defender, and click Automatic in the start-up box > click OK.

Also, follow the below mentioned steps and check:

• Open the Task manager. Here’s a tip: Press CTRL+Shift+ESC.
• Click File > Run New Task
• Make sure you have a check mark beside “Create this task with administrative privileges”
  
• Type CMD
• Type the following 2 commands at the CMD prompt:
  
  dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth
  
  sfc /scannow
  
  
• Close the CMD window
