Windows 10: Help! Network discovery won't stay on / can't start DNS Client service Windows 11 Home

I am unable to access LAN resources on my computer since the last Windows update could be a coincidence, as uninstalling the update does not fix it. I have found it happens because "Network discovery: in "Advanced sharing settings" won't stay on, which I have traced to the "DNS Client" service which I am unable to start, getting the error "System error 1058 has occurred. The service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or because it has no enabled devices associated with it." network discovery will not stay on

Once I upgraded to Windows 10 V 2004 OS Build 19041.208, I noticed that my file shares could not be accessed. I went into Network Sharing settings and the Discovery setting was off. I turned it on and did a save, then went right back into the settings
and it was off again. After doing this a few times I knew something had changed. I found several "fixes" on the internet but none of them worked. During that process I did discover that my DNS Client service was not running and the Start option was grayed
out. I found another article addressing the DNS Client service being grayed out that had me look at the REGEDIT value of the START key for (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\Dnscache).
It was set to 4 (disable) so I changed it to 2 (AUTOMATIC), exited REGEDIT and rebooted my system. That allowed me to then set Discovery on in the Sharing settings and it stayed on, fixing the issue. Yea...

   • DNS Client
   • Function Discovery Resource Publication
   • SSDP Discovery
   • UPnP Device Host
     
2. Configure the Windows firewall to allow Network Discovery. To do this, follow these steps:
   1. Open Control Panel, click System and Security, and then click Windows Firewall.
   2. In the left pane, click Allow an app or feature through Windows Firewall if you are running Windows Server 2012. Or, click Allow a program or feature through Windows Firewall if you are running Windows Server 2008 or Windows Server
      2008 R2.
   3. Click Change settings. If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
   4. Select Network discovery, and then click OK.
