  1. HELP please- Documents lost probably because of OneDrive

    Hi,

In short: there has been some hassle with OneDrive and now a lot of important files are gone. I already tried to recover them with restore OneDrive and by looking in the trash, but alas.

Longer version: I saved my documents in C:\Users\rober\OneDrive\Documents. I was looking at the options-menu of OneDrive because I wanted to stop OneDrive and just save everything local.

In the printscreens in Dutch unfortunately you can see where I went:

    - PRINTSCREEN 1: OneDrive --> options --> account --> choose maps "mappen kiezen" in dutch --> I removed the check mark of documents --> pop-up: you cant do this, you have to go to back-up options

    - PRINTSCREEN 2: I go to Back-up options --> "stop back-up" on documents --> warning --> I cancel. I did try it later though when my files where already gone, and even if you continue with this, it does not remove any files.

I dont think I went to any other options, but I'm not completely sure. I just know I am very carefull about potential file loss.

So after I had been in the options menu, suddenly ALL my documents were gone. Even weirder: about 5% of my files could be recovered from the trash on the OneDrive website. But the other 95% is nowhere to be found. Not on my local drives, not on my OneDrive.I even tried the "Restore OneDrive", putting it to yesterday. Didn't work. More-over: it shows every change I made in all my files in the last month; but there even is no mentioning of working on the missing files...OneDrive thinks they never existed.

The difference between the 5% and the 95% is clear when I go to therecently opened files of Word, where all files, including the missing ones, are shown. The 5% that simply went to the OneDrive trash are saved on OneDrive - Personal/Documents or: https://d.docs.live.net/9420883f40c070f3/Documents when I hold my cursor on it, according to Word.

The 95% thats gone was saved on C:\Users\rober\OneDrive\Documents, according to Word. This map is still on my computer, unharmed, and still linked to OneDrive. If I delete files from this map myself, then they always remain in the trash of OneDrive. If I make Word open one of these files, it says: "can't open https://d.docs.live.net/9420883f40c070f3/Documents/File-name."

So not only do I not understand a thing about the meaning of the difference between the 5 and the 95%; I'm also completely out of ideas on how to recover them...

If you read this whole story, thank you, and I hope you can help me.

    Robert

Help - OneDrive/Quick Access bypass not working

Sorry for the late reply. I missed your post somehow. *Sad

By default, the Documents from the Start list opens to Documents in This PC. The Documents folder in This PC is just a link of your "C:\Users\(user-name)\Documents" folder though.

Since it opens to your OneDrive location instead, it sounds like you have Documents set to save to OneDrive by default. You can use the same steps in OPTION ONE of the tutorial below to set Documents to save to the default This PC only again.

    Windows 10 - OneDrive

Right click on the app and one of the properties has an option to not automatically start it. Uncheck, restart the computer, and it should stop. If you want to go another step further, find the OneDrive app in the start menu, right click on it and uninstall.

If that is still insufficient, there is a batch uninstaller for OneDrive available online. I can copy the code here if you need it.
