Windows 10: Help, reinstalling Windows 11 on Dell dual drive desktop with multiple partitions

Hi, I've been having problems with my Dell dual drive desktop. I've already done a reset and the freezing still continues and now more frequently. I'm now at the point where I'm going to try to do a clean install. I've already created the USB bootable file, it's in PC and I've booted up to Window's Set-up. I'm trying to follow the instructions until I got to this screen, see images, regarding Partitions and now I'm completely lost. I don't have a clue where or how to install Windows 11???? There are a lot of Partitions of which I have no idea what that is.Please can anybody help me

Note this applies to Dell systems mostly since they have advanced UEFI BIOS.

The next step as suggested by many is to load IRST drivers, which fixes the problem.

Yes it does, however there is a catch, it fixes only if the BIOS settings have Windows Boot Manager partition intact.

However, if WBM is deleted via diskpart commands, it will not fix this issue.

Solve: Enter BIOS, go to Storage> Change the operating mode of the internal storage controller.

It should list.

Disabled

AHCI/NVMe

RAID ON

By default, Raid is selected, change it to AHCI/NVMe, click on save changes at the bottom.

Reboot machine and try to reinstall OS and now it should list the partitions successfully.

 

Partition or multiple hard drives?

As the title suggests. Is it worth installing say a 36GB drive for the OS soley or partitioning an existing larger drive with either 2 or more partitions? I am currently running Vista 32bit and want to try out 64bit and am sick of reformatting the whole drive. Any suggestions?

 

W7 Hard drive partition issue

to get rid of that 100 meg windows partition that setup creates for you on a new install on a blank hdd:

- press shift+f10 when on the partition management screen in setup <-- this opens a command prompt
- diskpart <-- start the windows command line partition management tool
- list disk <--- list the installed hdds in this computer for the next step
- select disk 0 <- might have to replace 0 with the number of the correct disk
- clean <-- this will erase all data on the disk you selected one step up- dont use the wrong disk!
- create partition primary <- creates a primary partition taking up all space on the drive, adjust the command if necessary
- exit, exit to exit diskpart and the command prompt
- click refresh in partition manager and select your newly created partition and install to that
