  1. Help Required after windows update 4556799 firefox passwords gone

Hi all, first time poster so apologies if posting in wrong place. My laptop updated windows recently says kb4556799 failed to install with this error 0xc1900401. KB4552931 was the last successful install. When i restarted the laptop i think i got a Internet explorer page saying it had trouble signing in, but not too sure as i just x'ed it before realising my desktop was missing everything . Help Required after windows update 4556799 firefox passwords gone :(

It seems the update has removed all of the files from the desktop, leaving shortcuts for programs that were there before. Thankfully the actual files that were moved are there if i got to ''this pc,users, same profile name, desktop etc , so at least Im able to get to those to backup. A friend mentioned that it has cloned the user profile or something but couldnt really help. I cannot switch user profiles at start menu , and it is named the same as before, the only ting is now under thispc-users there is another user folder missing the last letter eg normal user name is Paddy, new folder is named Padd), and only has a folder named ANDY.

My main problem now is that Ive lost all of my passwords for gmail, facebook etc, and all the emails were using each other as the backup recovery mails , so Im stuck in a loop of endless password guessing .

Would there be any way to access these old passwords from the files that saved? Would rolling back the update help in this case? If so, is there any risk to losing my files on a roll back ?

    Would really appreciate any help,

    thanks,k

  2. New FF - passwords

    Hi:

If that setting is already enabled, then I suggest as the next troubleshooting step might be Mozilla Safe Mode (not to be confused with Windows Safe Mode)):

Troubleshoot Firefox issues using Safe Mode | Firefox Help

    • Please report back and let us know the outcome, as it will dictate the next steps.
    • Also: please tell us what AV/AM/firewall programs are you running on this system?

    Thanks,
    MM
