Help Required for Windows 10 Clean Installation

    Hi All

I have just built myself a brand new PC. It is based on the AMD Ryzen 5 2600 CPU using a Gigabyte GA-B450 Gaming X Motherboard. Included is a WD Blue 500GB PCIe M.2 SSD and 32GB of Kingston HyperX DDR4-2666Mhz RAM. The motherboard supports M.2 PCI3 x4 SSD and 32GB of RAM.

I downloaded Windows 10 .iso file using the Microsoft Media Creation Tool and created a USB installation drive using Rufus.

The installation goes well. It installs all files, installs updates and then restarts. And this is where I run into problems.

When the computer restarts, the PC immediately goes into Recovery Mode stating the following "Critical System Drivers" are missing:

    1. \Windows\system32\ntoskrnl.exe
    2. \Windows\system32\drivers\pcw.sys
    3. \Windows\system32\drivers\evbda.sys

Thinking I had a faulty USB drive, I purchased a new USB drive, set the security in BIOS to Setup, enabled CSM, moved the USB drive to the top of the boot drive. Unfortunately, as soon as the computer restarts after installing all files/updates etc. I run into the same "Critical System Drivers are Missing" error.

Thinking the problem was with using Rufus to create the bootable USB, I recreated the bootable USB drive using the Media Creation Tool. Alas, same problems.

Thinking I was downloading a corrupt version of Windows 10 2004, I used a previously downloaded version of Windows 10 1909 and again used Rufus. Same problem.

I am at my wits end. Could someone please help me? I really need to get the new computer running as I have sold the old one. The new owner is picking up the old computer in a weeks time.

Thanking everyone in advance and I look forward to any assistance that can be provided.

    :)

  2. Clean Install Workaround for Vista

You may remember this news story on techPowerUp! a couple of days ago relating to the lack of clean installs when using the Upgrade Editions of Vista, which required an old OS to be installed. However, Paul Thurrott has managed to find a workaround for this issue, which ironically lets users do a clean install Vista without any previous version of Windows, albeit a little tedious. Here are the steps:
    • Boot from the Windows Vista Upgrade DVD as normal
    • When prompted for a product code, leave this blank
    • Select the version of Vista you have purchased and let Vista install
    • When you boot to your desktop for the first time, run the Vista setup from Windows
    • This time enter your product key
    • When asked whether you want to do an Upgrade of Custom install, select custom and choose a clean install
    • Windows will now install for a second time and you should be able to activate it
Remember, these steps are only advised for use in order to achieve a clean install of Vista, it is only legal to use the upgrade editions if you have previously purchased the appropriate version of Windows.
