Windows 10: HELP! Slow download speed despite multiple fast speed test results

Hello everybody,

I hope this a good place for this post and my apologies if it is not.

So here’s the situation: my wife and I just got a new printer and I was setting it up yesterday. Part of the setup is downloading the software to each of our computers. I downloaded it on mine no problem. I go to setup my wife’s computer and the download is taking a ridiculously long time (still going and maybe ~10% done over the last 20ish hours).

We have Cox 150 mb/s and I’ve run multiple speed tests from different websites on my wife’s computer which confirm a download speed of anywhere from 60-80 mb/s. Am I wrong in thinking it could be something with my wife’s computer (HP laptop running windows 10)?

Her computer is the only device in our house experience a problem. Both our phones and my computer are fine. Any help is much appreciated!

Slow download speed fast upload on Ethernet.

Hi

If a website has a slow server, a fast internet connection may be experienced but may have very slow download speeds. Download speed will be affected with the website server as it also impact your internet connection speed.

You may try a test with other websites and check the results with the website that you are experiencing slow download speed.

• I would suggest you to test the speed using any of the speed test website or app to confirm the upload and download speed.
• I also suggest you to reset the wireless router to check if that helps.
  
• You may plug in the Ethernet cable if available and check the speed.

Slow downloading speed

Are you on a laptop or a desktop?

Is the computer plugged in to charger when downloading? (laptop)

The download speed has as much to do with the website server where you are downloading a file from as it does with your internet connection speed.



You can have a very fast internet connection, but experience very slow download speeds if the website has a slow server. This could be caused by very heavy traffic on that server or it may just be a slow server.



One thing you can do to check is to go to the following website and check your speed.

Speedtest.net:

Speedtest by Ookla - The Global Broadband Speed Test

Try several different test websites there to see the different download/upload speeds.

Compare the results with the website where you are seeing the slow downloads.
