Windows 10: Help! Stuck on welcome screen before pin entry!

Hey everyone!

I recently installed a few Windows 10 updates and afterwards restarted my laptop. Once it booted up I got to the welcome screen where you can click or hit any key to proceed to your pin or password to log into your computer.

My problem is that when I click or hit a key the screen blurs as if it was about to go to the pin but it never loads to that point and shoots me back to the welcome screen after a minute or so.

Here is what I’ve tried to fix it so far: 1. Restart 2. Power off and wait before restart. 3. Startup Repair (nothing was repaired or found to be wrong) 4. Waited for it to load numerous times before receiving the welcome screen again. 5. Tried turning off WiFi and restarting with it off. 6. Tried unplugging all USB connected items (mouse, headset, etc)

Some other info that could be helpful: The computer is a Dell Inspiron A little over 2 years old. No major issues before this at all. 16 GB RAM 250 GB free space left

I’m not very technologically savvy so any help with this would be welcome. If any other info can be useful to help with this please let me know and I’ll be sure to share any that I can!

@smoka Great you fixed it and would be interesting to know how you did it. Care to list the basic steps you took to do it so that it can help others stuck in the same situation?

 

Homebase: PIN entry screen opens too late

When booting up my HTC S740 having Windows Mobile 6.1 installed, the Homebase screen is displayed for up to two seconds before the PIN entry screen is displayed.

A malicious user could use this time to read Homebase contents. Depending on a mobile phone's configuration this could be message content, wallpaper content or calendar entries. This could become quite a high security risk.

I'd like to suggest that - if activated - nothing is displayed before the PIN entry screen is positively confirmed.

Stuck in diagnostic mode, PIN # not accepted, please help


I had no issues with my computer prior. I simply was following some online suggestions for ways to reduce lag in an online game we like to play. The suggestion was to turn diagnostic mode on, which I did. I shut my computer off and when I turned it back on and entered my PIN # it said it was incorrect, yet, it is indeed correct. This started a week worth of nonstop research on how to undo this mess. I can hold the shift key down while restarting my computer and I get a blue screen where I have several options. I have tried restarting my computer to previous version, does not work. I have gone to troubleshooting, advance, options and I get to the point that I can see a list of options like safe mode and etc. but cannot click on any options in the list, instead it says restart computer to get me to those options which when I restart takes me right back to the Windows login screen. I tried to pull up command prompt and it asks for my PIN # which it will not accept. I click on forgot password and it restarts PC and takes me right back to the windows login screen where my PIN is still not accepted. I try to get to safe mode, it asks for the user account and then the PIN # that again, it will not accept. I have turned the PC on and off 3 times to start the auto repair and it just takes me to the same screen as holding down the shift key when restarting. I don't know what else to do, I cannot get to safe mode because it requires a PIN # that it does not accept, I cannot get into command prompt because it requires a PIN # that again says is incorrect, I cannot get anywhere with any of the online options or directions I see that works for many people. WHAT DO I DO? Any help or suggestions??
