Windows 10: Help to stop updates

Hi all


Around 6 months ago I stopped using the PC for gaming, VR etc as everytime there was an update there was 101 issues so now using console, at least 3 times it was extremely costly for me including buying a new copy of Win 10, however I still have to use the PC for work due to COVID just now and expected to work from home 2 weeks out of every 4. About 8 weeks ago an update came through again I really dont like the downloads in background when you cant see what's going on, then expecting you to update on shutting down before I even see what is actually being updated, last time I was oblivious to the fact it had updated, lost half a working day trying to fix errors when it "configured" upon me starting my PC, I have set the PC not to update etc however it updates whenever it wants, apart from windows own "postpone updates till......" which isn't working on mine is there any other way to stop this happening, last night there was another update, again it's taken so long to get back in today and I have no idea what these updates are, security or otherwise only security allowed, not interested in extra apps or nice pictures etc, rolling back is not working as well, I know its switched off as default in Win 10 extremely hard lesson learned there so it's on, can anyone please help me to stop this PC updating in some other way please, I'm actually losing the will to live and actually detest starting it up now.

A simple solution but one that works in most circumstances!

1. Click Start, click Run, type services.msc, and then click OK.

2. In the list of services, right-click Automatic Updates, and then click Properties.

3. In the Startup type list, click Automatic, and then click Apply.

4. If Service status is set to Stopped, click Start, and then click OK.

5. Right-click Background Intelligent Transfer Service, and then click Properties.

6. In the Startup type list, click Manual, and then click Apply.

7. If Service status is set to Stopped, click Start, and then click OK.
