Windows 10: Help to stop windows 10 search box constantly popping up

I'm having a similar issue but it only really crops up when I'm in a full screen game or app.
Task bar pops up and goes on top of everything else....it's freaking annoying.

I think there is a button somewhere doing it will disable a few things and see what happens tonight.

 

For some reason my touch pad settings revert to the default setting whenever I shut down or restart my computer. Turning the 3 finger tap function off has completely fixed the problem for me but I have to go into my touch pad settings when I restart or shutdown and turn the 3 finger tapping function off each time. It's annoying to have to do this when my computer comes on but it's better than having the search/Cortana box pop up constantly. I read on another forum that the newest driver for the Synaptics Touch Pad doesn't work well with Windows 10 so that may have something to do with it.

I've installed windows 10 a few days ago on my hp laptop and I'm having the same problem with cortana search box popping up.
I've tried both the solutions proposed by Edwin and scd4f
It seems slightly improved (it doesn't as frequently as before) but the search box continues to appear
I think it's got something to do with some new app working in the background but not prove of that.

Hmmm...I don't have any problems when I'm playing a full screen game. It only seems to be when I'm scrolling using the touch pad. When I use an external mouse it never pops up.

I don't have this problem. I checked this morning, and my three finger tapping is still off from yesterday even after reboot. But then you say turning off three finger fixes your search problem, but it doesn't for me.

It seems as though every person's problem is unique...

 

it happens when you slide your finger on your mouse pad for the far right to the left. it is making me 200% mad. I know how it happen but I can't prevent it from happening, I'll let you know when I get a solution, because I haven't gone deep yet

 

use a mouse, its a lot easier

Hi there, I just made an account to share this. scd4f's solution did not help me, but I did discover the solution to my problem as I was trying his.

This is what solved my problem. As r3b00t said, the search box pops up when you slide your finger from the far right of the touchpad to the left. So, to turn that off, click the Start button and select Settings. Then select Devices and click on Mouse and Touch pad. Scroll to the bottom and select "Additional Mouse Options." When the box pops up, click on the "Click to change________ Touch Pad Settings" at the bottom (mine says Dell Touchpad Settings). Another box should pop up. In the menu on the left, select "Gestures" and then uncheck "Right Edge Swipe" under One Finger Gestures. Click the save button, and then it should be fixed! So far this has worked for me, so I hope this helps everyone who was getting as annoyed as I was.

EDIT: I realize that I have a different system than scd4f, his is an HP and mine is Dell, so therefore, this solution only works for those who have Dell laptops.

 

Just want to clarify and point out that the reason scd4f's solution did not help you is probably because he does not own a Dell laptop as you do (most likely an HP laptop), so the "additional mouse options" are different.
For example, there's not even a "Gestures" box under the HP touchpad settings, so there is no "right edge swipe" for it. The three finger tap is what brings up the search box under the default settings for the HP laptop.

 

Ohh, okay. I'm not really a computer expert so I didn't really see the difference there, so thank you for clarifying. Hopefully mine can help out anyone with a Dell Laptop.

 

My touchpad had only a two finger click option. I clicked that off too and it seems to have solved the problem.*Biggrin

 

Same here. HP Pavilion with Synaptics TouchPad v7.5 driver, only 2 fingers tapping option, so I couldn't disable the 3 fingers behavior (because it doesn't exist).
Of course if I disable ALL gestures then the problem is gone (and my daily work ability with it *Biggrin )

I've been browsing the issue and nothing solved out there. Please keep posted if someone finds a solution! : ))
