  1. *HELP* Unable to boot from SSD no matter what I try

I have recently purchased my new desktop and I have ported over my existing SSD from my previous desktop. The boot priority in bios is as such:

Boot Option #1: Windows Boot Manager (AS Velocity G4 1TB)
Boot Option #2: P1: Samsung SSD 840 EVO 250GB - This is my existing SSD from my previous desktop

However, when I select boot option #1 to be my Samsung SSD, it will show "Reboot and Select proper boot device or Insert Boot Media in selected Boot device and press a key". In the event that I select AS Velocity G4 1TB without the windows boot manager, the same problem will occur. I did try to boot as legacy, but it didn't work either.

I did some research and found out that my NVME SSD (AS Velocity G4) is formatted as a GPT drive and requires an EFI partition for it to display Windows Boot Manager in Bios.

Subsequently, I converted my Samsung SSD into a GPT drive, created an EFI partition and copied the boot files from my NVME's EFI (AS Velocity G4 1TB) partition into my Samsung SSD's EFI partition and it finally displayed Windows Boot Manager (Samsung SSD 840 EVO 250GB). However, when I tried booting from it, it is still not able to boot from my Samsung SSD and it'll ultimately revert to my AS Velocity. So I'm not sure if the boot files copied from the NVME's EFI partition is causing it to boot from it instead of my Samsung SSD.

Any help would be sincerely appreciated as I have tried all that I can think of but still not able to resolve the booting problem that I am facing.

The build that I am using, if it helps:

    Ryzen 7 3700x
Gigabyte RTX 2070 SUPER Windforce OC
    Gigabyte B550M DS3H
    16GB DDR4 3600mhz ram
1TB GEN 4 PCIE NVMe M.2 SSD (AS Velocity G4)
    FSP/EVGA 650W 80Plus *Bronze* PSU

P.S. I am not able to install a fresh copy as I have lost my installation disc when I shifted house and the reason why I want to boot from my Samsung SSD is because my NVME SSD is an unactivated copy of windows.

  2. Unable to boot Windows after cloning it to SSD

    Hi,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

I understand that you are facing issues while booting the PC after cloning Windows to new SSD. I would like to know what happens when you try to boot the PC to desktop using SSD?

The reason you are not able to boot the PC is that the files required to boot Windows are still recognizing the HDD as the main drive. I would suggest you to try rebuilding the BCD files and see if you are able to boot the PC using
    SSD.

Kindly follow the steps below to rebuild the BCD.

    1. Create a bootable media and boot the PC using the media.
    2. On the Install Windows screen, select Next >
      Repair your computer.
    3. On the System Recovery Options screen, select
      Troubleshoot
      > Advanced options > Command Prompt.
    4. Now type in the commands and hit enter: BOOTREC /FIXMBR

      BOOTREC /FIXBOOT

      BOOTREC /scanos

      BOOTREC /rebuildbcd
    5. Restart the PC.

If the issue persists, please get back to us with the results of the troubleshooting steps to assist you further.

Windows 10 SSD Boot and Sleep faliure

Windows cannot stop the BIOS recognising the SSD. If at any time you can go into the BIOS and the SSD is not listed then you have an (intermittent) hardware fault. It does not matter what the precursor steps are if the hardware was OK it must be listed

Step 6 is categorical, you have a hardware fault. BIOS device recognition is always before drivers load so they cannot affect the process

*HELP* Unable to boot from SSD no matter what I try

No Boot, Drives Not detected, Can't Load Win10 Pleses Help!

Until the BIOS sees your M.2, there's nothing you can do. It does not matter if the M.2 is unformatted/unallocated, the BIOS should see it.
    1. Suggest that you take the M.2 out, clean all the contacts and re-seat it and hope this is the case.
    2. If step one fails. Connect your 250GB SSD back in using one of the SATA port to see if the BIOS recognize it. If it doen't, then it might be something wrong with the MB, if it does then boot up the Windows Installation USB, run diskpart, shrink it at least 40GB then create a partition, Leave it unallocated then install Windows there.

Also try to re-seat all other components such as Memory, Video card etc...
