Windows 10: Help w/ USB Port Reset Failure

Hi, I apologize if there is a dedicated thread for help questions. I read the about section and didn’t see any limits.

I’m getting a “USB port reset failure” code 43 on both of my USB-C ports when connecting a Sceptre E24 Monitor using a USB-C to HDMI cable.

I’ve contacted Lenovo tech and they want to replace the machine after trouble shooting the hardware. Machine no longer exists so they want to issue a refund. I got such a good deal on the unit that I do not want to give up the machine.

Here is what I’ve done so far: 1-I’ve tried multiple cables 2-Uninstalled port/restarted computer 3- Connected a different monitor 4-Used the same cable and successfully used monitor on a different computer 5-Checked for drivers. System states everything is up-to-date.

At this point I’m thinking the port is bad, however another USB-C device works fine with the hub. So I don’t believe the issue is with a physical device but a software/firmware issue.

My setup, PC: Lenovo M90N iot Monitors: Sceptre E24 (2x, one connected just fine via DisplayPort) OS: Windows 10 Home 64bit

Hi Laura,

We would like to know more information regarding the "usb port reset fail" error that you are getting. To verify whether this issue is being caused by the port or the external device, we would like to gather more information:

• What external device are you trying to connect to your computer?
• Have you tried connecting the external device to another port or different computer?
• Have you tried connecting a different external device to the port?
• What troubleshooting steps have you tried so far?

USB Port Oddities


Ok, let's see it with pictures step-by-step. First right-click on the USB device and select Update driver software:





Then select Browse my computer for driver software (LAST option) :





The select Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer (LAST option) :





Then select the standard driver from the list and click next:





Click next/OK as required to complete installation. Repeat the steps for all Intel USB devices. Finally click on each USB root device and press DEL to delete it, reply YES when asked. After deleting all USB root devices restart the computer.
