HELP! Was moving around and accidentally merged user folder and documents folder

So I was moving around some folders since I recently installed a storage drive and from some errors I was trying to correct with program file paths accidentally merged my user folder and documents folder. I have managed to restore the documents folder however my user folder still shows as documents as my user folder and when I select documents on the quick access bar it still goes to my user folder since the actual documents folder is within my user folder named 'documents'how do I restore my user folder to my name? Any help is appreciated!

    :)

Accidentally merged User and Documents folders

    Hello,

I was moving some files around on my hard drive and I accidentally merged my User folder with my Documents folder. So in my C:\User directory instead of seeing C:\Users\MyName I see C:\Users\Documents. Seen below:

I have looked through a few different forums on how to fix my mistake, but I am not 100% sure on how to fix it. I believe that I need to make a change in the registry because the data field for "Personal" is %USERPROFILE% and not %USERPROFILE%\Documents.

Can anyone help me with some steps that I can follow so I can resolve my mistake? I don't want to mess up the registry and hurt my machine. Thanks in advance!

Accidentally merged User and Documents folders

    Hi Adalo_22

Yes you are correct, that is merged, open the Registry Editor, it should still be on the same page

Double click Personal and set its value data to:

    %USERPROFILE%\Documents

Also, double click the DWORD at the top indicated in the image below and set that to the same value and set its value data to the same value

When that completes, close the Registry Editor and restart your PC

That will reset the location of that library folder

You may need to manually move files and folders from your users folder back into Documents

Please Note, the icon on your Documents folder may not change immediately, but it will, it just takes Explorer a while to catch up on changes made in the registry . . .

  4. HELP! Was moving around and accidentally merged user folder and documents folder

    Accidentally moved My Documents folder

Hello. I accidentally moved My Documents folder from its default location. I was able to move it back as shown online by restoring the folder back to its default location. However My Documents folder ended up in another My Documents folder as a sub folder.
Here is what it looks like: C:\Users\riven8half\Documents\Documents. I find not way of moving the folder up one level to where it belongs. The folder works as it is just not where it is suppose to be. When I
check on the Locations tab it shows: C:\Users\riven8half\Documents. It is like the upper level folder name does not exist but it does. Please help.

    Thanks,
