Help! Win10 Quick Access lists suddenly stop working

Getting a annoying and recurring issue on a few user PCs.

Seemingly out of nowhere, the user's Quick Access items suddenly stop appearing under Quick Access in file explorer. Upon inspection, it looks like the Quick Access list is collapsed or unable to expand preventing users from seeing the items they may have pinned.

Looking this community for solutions, I've tried deleting everything under both:

    %appdata%\microsoft\windows\recent\automaticdestinations\

    and

    del %appdata%\microsoft\windows\recent\customdestinations\

which does restore functionality (also nuking anything the user had pinned), but only resolves the issue temporarily. The issue recurs after a couple days and its becoming very frustrating for myself and my users. .

This issue is seems to be independent of Window 10 versions/updates, meaning updates didn't have any effect in creating or fixing the issue. Any other ideas before I am forced to do a clean install window 10? Thanks!!!

    :)

  2. Quick Access Not Working

This happened recently. My big list of quick access items suddenly became three items (Desktop, Downloads, Documents). I tried to refresh, or add folders by pinning them to quick access but it wouldn't work. I tried a troubleshooting suggestion from another
website, and that didn't work either. When I unpinned one item from quick access it vanished, and never came back. I still can't add anything to Quick Access still. Please someone help me here. Thank you

    Quick Access Suddenly Stopped Working

    Hi Guardian978,

One possible reason for this issue is due to file Quick Access corruption among the data which the system stores. Resetting the data would help resolve this kind of issue. Here are the steps:

    1. Right click on the Start icon.
    2. Click Command Prompt (Admin).
    3. Type del /F /Q %APPDATA%\Microsoft\Windows\Recent\AutomaticDestinations and hit Enter.
    4. Close Command Prompt.
    5. Restart your PC.

    Let us know the outcome.

    Quick Access bar

    Hi,

Thank you for posting your query in Microsoft Community.

We would be glad to help you with the issue you are facing today. I understand the difficulty.

    Remove items from Quick access.

I would suggest you to follow the below steps.

    • Right click on the file or folder.
    • Select the option “unpin from the quick access”

To pin items to an item already on the quick access bar.

    Follow the below steps.

I would suggest you to create folder in the desktop screen & place all the files or folder which need to pin to the quick access.

    • Open the quick access.
    • Select the Desktop option.
    • Right click on the folder & select the option “pin to quick access”

Hope this helps in resolving the issue. If the issue persists, do get back to us. We will be happy to assist you.

    Thank you.
