Windows 10: Help with login

Just set up a family user account for my Son with his outlook account. Its all activated but when he goes to log in with his password it says
" you must be online the first time to complete your account setup"
there is an internet connection, so what's going on? Appreciate the help. Probably a simple solution.

Mouse cursor contsantly blinking and not working properly

I have the same problem. It will not let me select when the mouse pointer is flashing. I have to wait for the computer to be on for awhile to stop the flashing.

I have reinstalled the mouse software and updated the driver.

Any suggestions?

Did you setup his account using the same computer that he is using? (I guessing you did since I don't think this is remotely possible)
It could be that his account doesn't have internet access possibly? You could try looking into the properties of his account (i.e access/restrictions)

Are you using the Microsoft family setup (based online) or another software such as Net Nanny?

Make sure the ethernet cable is fully connected (make sure you hear a click when plugging it in), or if its wireless then turn the Wi-Fi off and on from the computer.

It could mean that you have to be online as well your Son for first time setup?

Yes I set up his account on his computer. Not sure how to look at the properties of his account. There is def an internet connection when you are on the login page. I am using Microsoft family and also netnanny. I didn't have this problem before. I just deleted his account and set up new one as the screentime was playing up. It was working fine with netnanny before this. I can log in fine as administrator. Not sure what's up with it.

 

If it's any consolation I have similar problems with my sons acc on our laptop (but not our desktop!). Whilst he can login ok edge and IE take ages to be useable for him. Mozilla is ok though. It's as if the MS family tracking where it logs his activity is causing it to get stuck. Deleting his user account and recreating it does not fix. I just thought I'd chime in to say your not alone as it seems child accounts are problematic on Windows 10

Yes I think there is a major delay when you change the settings to them actually coming into effect also. That is why I removed his account and then added him again. But this thing with him logging in is really becoming annoying. There is an internet connection so I can't see what the problem is?

 

I doubt it will help but I think there is another cumulative update due tomorrow. If it still plays up many people on here swear by in place / repair upgrade as a fix for issues. Personally I will try that as a last resort. I might try and get online with ms technical support and see what they can do

 

Yes, I would do this to if I were you Krom. Unfortunately it sounds more like a online account problem, opposed to something directly wrong with the computer.

Have you got the new version of Net Nanny? I know there is an old version that, when it is upgraded to windows 10 it starts to affect the computer. To check this make sure in the taskbar it shows a "@" sign in a shape of an "n". Not the yellow and blue icon with the blue nanny and the plug.

Thanks Krom. I would be very interested to hear how things work out for you. Like I say, I have a similar - ish problem with my son's user account. You never know, there could be a common factor. If I make any discoveries I will share them on this thread

 

Yep, a software that can just combine everything would be great! *Biggrin If you don't succeed in setting up a account for your son via Windows Family Safety then you could just create a "limited local account" instead. This blocks installations and basically anything you would expect you would need an administrator for.

Unless you are planning to use Family Safety for another layer of browsing security then you could do this as well. Also be aware that I'm not sure if Edge is filtered by Net Nanny, so check this as well. Wish you good luck *Wink.
