    Help with Recovering unbootable partition

So my laptop died during a rollback to a previous save point after the latest upgrade. It's now in an unbootable state. I've tried using chkdsk, sfc, DSIM, repair, bcd rebuild, etc and have had no luck recovering. I get a BSOD upon startup. The drive is intact and accessible from a USB boot drive but nothing I've tried has been able to repair. I think some windows files may be corrupted or missing? I would really like to not have to wipe and reinstall as there are a lot of apps and data on this laptop. Any ideas on how to repair this guy in this situation? Thx

    :)

  3. Recover data from a RAW partition

I think you should mention that which file system you used. As per of my experience I suggest you Remo Recover utility to recover data from old hard drive. I think it will be helpful for you.

    Help with Recovering unbootable partition

    Recovering an unbootable NTFS drive

I am trying to recover an NTFS drive for a friend and need some help. Windows 10 was installed on the SSD as the operating system and after a failed update (screen went black during update and laptop turned off), the computer cannot boot into Windows 10 anymore. After the bios splash screen, the laptop screen stays black. Here's what I have found out and tried so far:

    • The bios recognizes the SSD. The SMART values are all ok, so I would rule out a hardware defect.
    • Booting into a Windows 10 USB installation media, the startup repair option doesn't work and also doesn't give me an error message. Thus, I opened a command line window and used diskpart: First, if I type list disk, the SSD is shown, but it tells me that it has a size of 0 bytes and also free space of 0 bytes. The commands list volume and list partition do not help here and don't show me any partitions. I also cannot run chkdsk outside of diskpart because there is no partition nor a partition letter.
    • However, after some reboots, diskpartactually shows the correct drive size and also the volumes in list volume, but the volumes all have the filesystem RAW. I again cannot run chkdsk, because, while I now have a partition letter, the command tells me that the partition needs to be formatted in order to be able to run chkdskon it. Unfortunately, I cannot reliably reproduce this behaviour of diskpart.

Then I booted from an Ubuntu 17.10 Live System (USB) and tried to recover data from there.

    • First of all, the disk cannot be mounted. (It says something about an inconsistent file system, which seems plausible given the failed windows update, screenshots at the end)
    • Before doing any operations on the disk, I tried to pull an image of the disk with ddrescue from the gddrescue package. However, even with multiple runs, I only get read errors without any data rescued. This behaviour of failing to read any data (I/O error) seems to be consistent with other tools (I tried two demos of paid live usb media). Could it be that the drive is somehow read protected?
    • The program ntfsfix also throws various errors and tells that the volume is corrupt and chkdsk should be used. (See screenshots)
    • I also cannot gather any information from gparted the program shows various I/O errors and then doesn't list the disk.
    • Interestingly enough, the pre-installed 'Disks' program (package gnome-disk-utility) lists the disk and its volumes with the correct filesystems (See screenshots). Mounting still fails and trying to create an image of the disk also fails with read errors resulting in an image consisting of only zeroes.
    • The analyse step of the testdisk program also doesn't succeed due to read errors during analysis and thus not finding any partitions.

I feel like I have exhausted all my options I could find on the internet. Does anybody have further suggestions what I can try? My primary goal would be to recover the (important) data and afterwards I would probably reinstall the system, but recovering the filesystem as is would be even better. In order to not blow up the post with images, I uploaded the mentioned screenshots and some more here. I hope you can help me.
