  1. Help with Resetting PC

So, I'm pretty lost at the moment and was hoping someone might have some advice/suggestions.

My son's PC had a Windows update a few weeks ago and he noticed some hiccups every now and then. Yesterday morning, he tried doing an update for AMD Radeon Software Adrenaline Edition 20.12.1 but when he did it, his system only recognized 1 of his 2 monitors. We tried reverting back to the previous edition but AMD said it Windows needed to be updated. He tried updating it again but it kept freezing in the process. After 3 tries, his system stopped loading Windows. I tried using our Windows 10 Home Edition DVD to do a system reset. I tried a few times but with no luck. Windows asked if we wanted to do a full reset to both his C (120GB SSD with OS) and F drives (1TB HDD for his games and everything else); I obliged and the reset got to 60% in 2 hrs and then said there was an error and couldn’t continue. This happened twice until it said a required drive partition is missing.

I tried going into the Command Prompt and doing a system scan but it said the pending system repair needed to reboot. We’ve tried 4 times but no luck. I also tried fixing the boot records using

    • bootrec.exe /rebuildbcd
    • bootrec.exe /fixmbr <---system said unable to complete request
    • bootrec.exe /fixboot

Everything else said completed successfully. I also ran chkdsk for both drives and tried running SFC/Scannow but it said it couldn't due to pending reset. Finally, the system said “the drive where Windows is installed is locked”.

This morning, I made download the Windows Media Creation Tool to a USB and tried running Startup Repair from it but got "Startup Repair couldn't repair your PC". Additionally, I wasn't able to use System Restore or Image Recovery as no references are available. To top it off, I wasn't able to uninstall latest Windows Updates or Features.

Once again, I tried to reset directly from Windows 10 Installation DVD, clicked on Reset this PC, choose to fully clean the drive Windows is located on. Windows screen with “Resetting this PC” popped up and started at 66%. After 1 min, blue screen with “Reset this PC – there was a problem resetting your PC.”

I thought, "Well shit, let's just try to remove files only" tried again but got to 74% before it stopped. When I try to exit and continue to Win 10, startup says “An operating system wasn’t found. Try disconnecting any drives that don’t contain an operating system”

I haven't tried disconnecting the HDD yet but wanted to ask here before I do anything else. Anyone have suggestions?

TL;DR - Can't reset Win 10 on son's PC and running out of ideas.

How to factory reset Cisco 1700 Router

Hopefully I can help you here....its a very common thing to happen.

First, I take it you dont know the passwords for console access or telnet/ssh?

I will assume that these devices belong to you.

step 1. Plug a cisco console cable into a serial port on your pc
step 2. Plug other end into Cisco console port
step 3. Using hyperterm or putty or similar connect to the serial port
step 4. boot router, and make sure you clearly can see the output (this confirms you have good serial comms)
step 5. if this fails, adjust the comm port settings (9600, 8,1,n are the default)
step 6. now you have to do the only hard part...send the break command:

    Break command list: Break Commands

Go down the list and match your OS and SW and try the sequence suggested.

If this fails several times do what I do: Install putty (free) and then to send a break so you can get into rommom just hit "ctrl-a b".

Yes try it again... lol... we were waiting for that!

You have steps listed....try to find a another pc to try...try to reset the bios and see if that for some reason would help. But yes, try putting it back in. If not, id say rma time.
