  1. Help with Slow / Non Responsive Win 10 On Old PC

I have a quite old PC, only the GPU is recent (2018). When I first installed Windows 10, around 2015 or so, the system was running fine at an acceptable response time without lag or "no response" issues.

Generally I've always followed the various guides about "making Windows 10 faster/lighter", and have seen some improvement with them,.

However, since 2019 my system has become quite slow and unstable, I have tried many format and reinstall of Windows 10 and nothing changed. Very often I will get unacceptable response times or the "no response / close the programm " Issue on very simple applications, like Opening the Torrent Programm which is minimized at tray, or opening the Windows Start Menu.

My thoughts are that Windows 10 got heavier with every updade throught the course of the years and my PC can't handle them like it did 5 years ago.

I have done some tests on my HDDs and they appear to be very healthy, even though they are Old Sata 2 Drives.

    My PC Specs Are :

    CPU : Intel Core 2 Quad 2,8Ghz Q9550
    Motherboard : Asus P5QC
    GPU : Nvidia 1060 3GB
    Ram : 4Gb DDR3 1333Mhz
    Disks : 2 WD HDD Sata 2

I've reverted to using Windows 7, and for some reason they are also much slower than they used to be on my PC (faster than Win 10 though) , and for sure I don't want to keep using an unsafe, no update, expired OS.

Do you have any particular / specific advice to make my old PC faster / responsive on Windows 10?
I'm currently saving money to spend a decent ammount for a New PC, but this will not come in the next 6 months, and beside Win 10, Linux seems my only viable option for a Stable and Working System.

Also, do you think that buying a SSD Sata 3 and use it on Sata 2 Port (my MB doesn't support Sata 3) would made any difference at all?

  2. Non response

    Hi,

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community.

I suggest you to run system file checker scan and check the issue.

Sfc /scannow will inspect all of the important Windows files on your computer, including Windows DLL files. If System File Checker finds an issue with any of these protected files, it will replace it.

    Follow the steps:

    • Press Windows key + X and select
      Command prompt (Admin).
    • At the Command Prompt, type:
      sfc/scannow
I suggest you to run the app troubleshooter and check if it helps.

    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-10/run-the-troubleshooter-for-windows-apps

    Hope it helps.

Let us know the status of the issue.

    Thanks.

Help with Slow / Non Responsive Win 10 On Old PC

Word (in Win365) is slow to non-responsive

I have noticed in past 1-2 weeks that Word has often been slow/non-responding when attempting to open document. I've been running Windows 365 for several months, and this slow-down has been a recent development.

Today Word took so long to open (about 2 minutes) that I did a Restart to try to correct problem, but it is still showing a frequest "non-responsive" status.

I'm using a Dell Inspiron 5000 series laptop (purchased in 2016); system has 6GB RAM (5GB usable) and runs 64-bit OS. I've checked laptop operation (e.g. disk fragmentation) and have not found any hardware error codes.

I'd appreciate any suggestions for improving Word performance.
