  1. Help with Windows 10 lag!

I've been trying to find a fix to this all day. I've scoured the internet for articles on how to fix it, I've done all the steps and nothing has worked. To sum it up, I'm experiencing terrible lag on my laptop since yesterday afternoon and I'm clueless as to why.

I use a 64x Lenovo laptop with Intel Pentium 4415U and 8GB RAM. I updated my laptop yesterday, not too sure which update but I do know theres a pinned post about it on this subreddit. I only noticed the lag I'm experiencing ever since I updated, and it's mostly like 4-5 minutes after I launch any program. Its more noticeable whilst I'm playing games, which is understandable because it is not a gaming laptop whatsoever but even then the only games I really play on it is Minecraft(using optifine and all settings decreased for best gameplay), osu! and Among Us. Before the update yesterday all of these ran so smoothly. For an example of this, on osu! I have a latency counter thing open in the bottom corner, built in function. Latency is usually around 15-20ms. After 4-5 minutes it spikes to 300ms randomly then stays around 150-200ms with no change to it.

I tend not to have any other programs open whilst playing games, at the most I only have Discord open too. I go through Task Manager a close any pesky apps which like to stay open in the background (mainly Microsoft Teams) before playing even before I updated.

I really do think the update has caused these latency and lag issues(not too clued up on correct terminology for this but I know most refer to it as lag). I really need any help at all to try and fix this. I can't even open Google Chrome properly. It takes around 10 mins to load into the home screen of it. I really need to use this to access college work.

TL;DR: Laptop experiencing massive lag from what I suspect is the latest Windows update, need help as can barely use it as this point and just want it to stop but don't know how.

    Random lag spikes

    Hi,

We would like to know more about your lag issue:

    • What browser are you using when you experience a lag?
    • Does the lag occur in a particular game?

In the meantime, we suggest you run the System Maintenance troubleshooter. Here are the steps:

    • Press Windows Key + X.
    • Click on Control Panel.
    • Select Troubleshooting.
    • On the left pane, click on View All.
    • Click on System Maintenance to run the troubleshooter.

    Looking forward to your response.

    Windows 10 Tweaks

Pressing “Windows+Pause Break” (it’s up there next to scroll lock) opens the “System” Window.

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

    • Open a new Explorer window.
    • Click View in the ribbon.
    • Click Options.
    • Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
    • Click OK
