Windows 10: Help with winmm.dll error

When I open my computer all applications other than google and main microsoft applications have given me an error saying "winmm.dll is missing try reinstalling the program to fix the problem." Others say "winmmbase.dll is missing" another said there was a problem with rsy3_audioappstreamwrapper.dll. I've looked it up and tried a virus sca

New releases of Windows sometimes have a tendency to mess with DLLs that some older games may depend on. By changing them, some games may no longer work correctly. One thing you can try is to get a correct copy of the DLL file you need, then drop it in the game folder (usually where the game exe/launcher is located). This *should* force the game to use the older DLL file rather than MS's newer version. I've had to do this with a few older games (GTA San Andreas and Vice City).

Not the case here, with older games (Shadows for example) we had to use a wrapper fro winmm because the older games were made before windows switched to winmm for cd access. with win 10, they screwed up their implementation of winmm and the wrapper was no longer working. Any older game, ones that even use winmm will have issue with windows 10 version of it because it is not behaving like it did previously.

D3dx9_30.dll Not Found error in Ashes Cricket 2009

Important Note: Do not, under any circumstances, download the d3dx9_30.dll DLL file individually from any "DLL download site." There are a number of different reasons that downloading DLLs from these sites are never a good idea.

Note: If you've already downloaded d3dx9_30.dll from one of those DLL download sites, remove it from wherever you put it and continue with the following steps.

1. Restart your computer if you haven't yet done so.

The d3dx9_30.dll error might be a fluke or one-time issue and a simple restart could clear it up completely. It's unlikely this will fix the problem, but restarting is always a good first troubleshooting step.

2. Install the latest version of Microsoft DirectX 9. Chances are, upgrading to the latest version of DirectX 9 will fix the d3dx9_30.dll not found error.

Note: Microsoft often releases updates to DirectX 9 without updating the version number or letter so be sure to install the latest release even if your version is technically the same.

Note: Are you a Windows Vista user with DirectX 10? Your game or program may still need DirectX 9 files to run properly so give the installation a try. Don't worry, both versions of DirectX can be run side by side in Windows Vista.

3. Assuming the latest DirectX version from Microsoft doesn't fix the d3dx9_30.dll error you're receiving, look for a DirectX installation program on your game or application CD or DVD. Usually, if a game or other program utilizes DirectX, the software developers will include a copy of DirectX on the installation disc.

Sometimes, though not often, the DirectX version included on the disc is a better fit for the program than the latest version available online.

4. Uninstall the game or software program and then reinstall it again. Something may have happened to the files in the program that work with d3dx9_30.dll and a reinstall could do the trick.

5. Restore the d3dx9_30.dll file from the DirectX 9 software package. If the above troubleshooting steps haven't worked to solve your d3dx9_30.dll error, try extracting the d3dx9_30.dll individually from the DirectX 9 package.

6. Update the drivers for your video card. While it's not the most common solution, in some situations updating the drivers for the video card in your computer could correct this DirectX issue.

m$ screwed up winmm in windows 10

dunno why, but doesn't work.. I mean the game loads and everything but doesn't play the background music. May have been your wrapper I was using.. I got it from a blog... Diary of a Punk Rock Hacker: June 2014
Also what do I need to modify in the dll (or exe) to make the mci change? maybe the close is making it never get to the actual playing of the sound...

It's funny, GOG released new version of JK and Mysteries of the sith that use winmm and in those games their replacement winmm works fine..but plugging it int he shadows sdata directory (and making sure shadows is looking fro it, original hack used the name winm0) I get the same results as with yours..game loads, just no background music. All the directories are correct in the registry and the MUSIC folder is in the same folder as the winmm (Same setup that worked fine before)

I don't remember what I changed, but I never bothered to look into why shadows was being stupid with the new winmm wrapper - I just modified the winmm wrapper to not actually close:
