  1. Here's why we want the Win10 usability EXACTLY like it used to be

    There are many requests I see in this forum, like:
    * can I have 3D borders back
    * can I have the old start menu back
    * can I get rid of apps that were designed for tablets
    * etc
    But those are all dancing around the main point - many of us want the OS looking EXACTLY LIKE IT USED TO.

    We can deal with the real changes - MS will update Home versions however they want, whenever they want.

    But why - in the name of love - can't we just have the INTERFACE customizable to the point where it can behave like it used to?

    Smart people designed features like 3D borders. Was it because they were old and dumb and old dumb people like old dumb stuff? Um, no. It was because it helps the eye to train faster with less stress. This borderless monstrosity is harder on people's eyes, requiring more eye-focusing actions per unit work.

    And while we're talking about work - an OS is about PRODUCTIVITY. So you know what - we need a QWERTY keyboard to remain a QWERTY keyboard. If they changed the keyboard layout every 2-3 years, it would grind productivity to a STANDSTILL - why do they not realize that the same is true for other interface aspects. You may change the software, but it is RIDICULOUS to change the interface all the time.

    And you know what - that is the job of these guys. They teach this stuff in computer science, it's not hard. Usability, the purpose of software, why we design the way we design. This is freshman stuff.

    :)

    Cannot download photos on windows 10 from my Nikon D 60 camera

    I do not understand why it works, or why Microsoft did not provide for it, but here is the fix (it's NONE of the stuff that the so-called "support engineers talk about, and it's really simple):

    Go to the Nikon web site, and the software download page;

    Download and install the NX2 View software.

    You don't even have to USE the software, apparently Win10 uses something in it to recognize the files, because once it is installed, Win10 (not to mention Adobe Bridge and other things) works exactly like Win 7 or 8.1.

    From OP...
    And you have to keep in mind that as many don't want the same looking OS. While I thought 7 was fine for it's time.. it's time to move onto a more modern looking OS UI, IMO.

    I would go back to Win 7 immediately if i had the chance but like some others got caught past the 30 day go back period . Thirty days is just not enough time to fully get a feel for Win 10.

    That's why you make backups of everything. And in this case you could have gone back to either 7 or 8.1 past the 30 days with no issues.

    Seriously. If all you want is Windows 7, then USE windows 7.

    If you don't want Windows 10, as it is designed, then don't use it.

    The fact is, Windows 10 is an entirely new OS that exists side-by-side with the old Windows OS. This new OS is still immature, and does not yet have all the features of the 20+ year old previous OS. It will take time for it to achieve feature parity. In the meanwhile, Microsoft has heard nothing but complaining about how the new OS isn't consistent with the way the old OS is working, so guess what? They removed the features from the OLD OS to make them more consistent.

    Users ASKED for consistency as one of the top rated features... so the only thing I can say is, be careful what you ask for.

    You can go back to Windows 7 whenever you want. The only "30 day limit" is to perform a rollback to restore everything. You can always re-install Windows 7.

    That's great for a temporary solution, but 10 is going to be the only Windows.

    Bottom line, you don't need to force interface changes on users, and you shouldn't. "Skins" was a concept developed nearly 20 years ago already.

    Consider the QWERTY analogy. It's what users want, and it's what users buy, because they are personally invested in the interface.

    OS = functionality + interface. These two parts could be provided by completely different vendors. People should have the CHOICE to retain their existing interface.

    There are real advances in productivity and usability which have been invented by smart guys over the last 30 years and they are being thrown away by this monstrosity.

    Every world-dominating company finally hits a moment when they think their market is their property and they can do what they like with it. And then we move on from them.
