Windows 10: hey guys i got hit with a drive by download norton says it blocked it?

HI all so i got hit with a drive bye d-load from Opera web browser i was searching forums, and got hit norton says it blocked it and it was in quarantine i purged the quarantine of it but i was wondering if i need to worry about anything else if i need to run other scans or call it a day seems people still put nasty little drive buy crap on the internet.

Downloading Movies

Hey guys, I recently rented a movie and when I got to hit the download button it won't let me even tho it expires in 13 days .. it simply won't let me even use the download button .. do I wait for to download it again when it expires or will the same thing
happen ?

 

i ran there tool they have on that page it did not find anything so i suppose i'm in the clear, if anyone has other sugestions on a tool to run to make sure let me know thanks much all *Smile .

 

From the looks of it, it seems harmless... cryptocurrency mining is the blockchain methodology Bitcoin and others use AFAIK.

Might want to put some miner blocker extensions in your browsers to prevent this in the future. *Wink

 

Malwarebytes (full) blocks such things, apparently. This is a thread on a similar bitcoin miner called coinhive.

I started using that as soon as I found out about it at Major geeks.
I don't overclock my PC so strangers can make money without asking permission first.

Personally I would have no problem if sites I use or go to, asked that you open a tab to their mining specific page, and only used a little bit of the systems resources(not be greedy) when you are not using the PC and it's turned on. But drive by doesn't cut it.

 

Hadn't seen this one before I read the post, so last night I went on a few well known torrent sites and found it mostly in the XXX section on all of them. Depending on the browser I was using it got stopped by Adguard, Script blockers/Tampermonkey or Malwarebytes Pro. It looks like it'll only run in the browser while on those sites so if someone does go to sites like that I'd suggest some script blocking extensions.


Update: Hmm, I'm noticing higher than normal CPU usage on some pages on Reddit this morning. I'll have to check later on my desktop cause I can't find anything using the laptop. With ad revenue decreasing because of everybody using ad blockers, more and more Sites are trying to make money by mining and it's just possible ?

 

Interesting. I wasn't on one of "those" sites (too old to fool with that) but was going with a link from another forum when MBAM caught it.

 

There's been a lot of cryptomining lately, involving some movie sites as well as regular sites.
