  1. HG's PC upgrade

Not according to the information I research a few months ago before buying my power supply.
But it would be a good idea for one to research a chosen power supply to see where the efficient range is.
I would think the range from power supply to power supply could be very different.
One needs to do their homework on power supplies just like they would on a CPU or GPU but for some reason most don't.

    Please read.

Yeah, I red about it a year or so ago, maybe some changed something by now. Just thought about another thing that should be considered and it's how many output rails it has at +12v. Let's take mine that I'm using now. It's Sharkoon Silent Storm 660W. SilentStorm CM | SHARKOON Technologies GmbH It has 4 rails of 18A each and that means It can't put out more than 18A @ 12v per rail. If I had GPU that draws more than 18A it would be not enough, Same thing on any other rail. So that's another thing that has to be considered. If you look at it's data you can see how its divided.

  3. That is why I select single rails with lots of amps.

That has it's drawbacks too, trouble in one part can fave effect on everything. Overload anywhere can make disturbance everywhere.

  5. A quality power supply will extend the life and reliability of the rest of the system. There were some issues with the one 12 volt rail system (you can weld with the current so watch out) as there were some issues with early multiple rail 12V PSU. That has been ironed out. Just read JonnyGURU.com - BeQuiet Straight Power 10 800W Review on the web and you will find out which fail and pass the smoke test. I have Enermax Technology Corporation PSU in all my systems except the Netbook and a Dell workstation which was given to me and still has the OEM supply in it. I have never had one fail. What ever PSU you choose give it plenty of research and plenty of budget. Never use the crappy PSU that comes "free" with the $50 case. One cheap case I can vouch for is this one: Source 210 Elite - NZXT
I have a couple of the elite and a couple of the lesser model with no USB 3. There are spaces for 6x 120mm or 1x120mm and 5x140 mm fans. Good cooling and a well designed budget case.

One of best PSUs I had was Chieftek 450W of few year old generation. It served me (I got it used) last 4 years and last 3 I was pushing it pretty hard, 24/7 at the full rated power. Even if power was lost for a second, computer would stay on, lights would blink, monitors would turn off, printer would restart but computer stayed on.
So yes, good PSU is a must.

That is the Power connector for the Video Card. Hence PCI E for Express. Do not plug into Motherboard. What is the make model of the PSU?

    Hi HG from the manual

    4. Connect the eight-pin +12V (EPS12V) cable to the motherboard.
    A. If your motherboard has an eight-pin +12V socket, connect the eight-pin
    cable directly to your motherboard.
    B. If your motherboard has a four-pin socket, detach the four-pin from the
eight-pin cable, and then plug this four-pin cable directly to your motherboard

    OK. Thanks, guys! *Thumbs

There was no manual that came with it. Yes, the correct 8-pin connector comes apart for a 4-pin that fits perfect.

I have it up and running! Finally! *Dinesh

This PSU is much more quiet. Not that I can hear much anyhow. *Tongue
