Windows 10: Hi I have just purchased a retail boxed Windows 11 Pro. But showed up as OEM_DM

Hi allI have bought a new authentic boxed retail Windows 11 Pro with blue USB drive not a OEM disc or anything.I have an existing Windows 11 pro installation. So I updated the windows key to the new Retail key which is stated very clearly as "Retail" on the key card under the key. Using technique advised online: slmgr /upkslmgr /cpkyslmgr.vbs /ipk CD KEYslmgr /ato The windows got activated and went ok.However when i checked with slmgr.vbs /dli, it showed up as OEM_DM!slmgr /xpr command shows "Windows permanently activated".Window setting said "Your Windows is activated wi

Activate OEM_DM laptop using retail disk

hi... my laptop come with Win 10 Pro OEM_DM which is digital license. hdd now spoilt. i buy new SSD but don't have OEM disk to reinstall. i download Windows 10 ISO from MS website, after clean install on SSD, check it is Windows 10 Pro Retail. my question, is that legal to activate the retail installation to OEM_DM laptop? and yes, the activation is successfull, i just want to know if that is legal? tq

A laptop that was supplied with OEM Windows 10 Pro installed has a W10 Pro key embedded in its bios firmware. The Windows 10 ISO you downloaded from MS website would have looked for this key and installed Pro, as that was the version the key entitles this PC to run. Yes, it is fully legal because the PC has its own key for 10 Pro.

The only thing that an OEM ISO may have added would have been any OEM utilities.

 

Free upgrade from Windows 11 Home to 11 Pro using 10 Pro retail license

My current computer has an activated Windows 10 Pro retail license. I'm planning to replace my current computer by buying a new computer that comes preinstalled with Windows 11 Home, and then I understand I can use my 10 Pro license to upgrade to 11 Pro for free.

What's the most straightforward way of accomplishing this? The obvious approach that comes to mind involves two steps:

1. Reinstall Windows 10 Pro on new computer and activate with my existing retail license.
   
2. Upgrade new computer to 11 Pro for free through the settings.
   

Is there a simpler way of doing this without having to reinstall Windows 10? For example, would it be possible to somehow "trade in" my Windows 10 Pro license for 11 Pro? I'm fairly new to Windows licensing and am just trying to understand what is possible/best practice, with minimal effort.
