Windows 7 key recovery needed.

So my girlfriends dad gave me a hard drive, well not quite. He wants his Windows 7 key that he has on the drive from when he was using it (until his laptop died), he now has a new laptop hence wanting the Windows key.

I'm pretty stuck on finding it for him so is there anyone about who could help me out. *Smile

I'm selling my 1 year old laptop (laptop 2 in sig), which came with Vista OEM.
I installed windows 7 on it with a key from MSDN. My best friend(the buyer) will format the laptop before he gives it to his sister, so I wanted to know how I can reuse my key for a new pc in the future.

I googled a little bit, but I couldn't find a clear answer. Will I have to call Microsoft or something?

Retrieve Windows 7 product key

I have a Dell laptop which was purchased on 2012 and it was supplied with Windows 7 Home Basic 64 bit OS.

unfortunately i have upgraded my OS to Windows 8.1 Pro 32 bit OS without activating product key.

And now i m facing lot of malfunctions in my laptop, and i am trying to go back to Windows 7 Home Basic 64 bit OS again.

But Still i have problem because now i didn't have Original Windows 7 Home Basic 64 bit OS CD with me & the label pasted behind the laptop also was erased hence i couldn't get my product key. but i have all the bills and invoices received from the time of
purchase. Dell customer support directed to contact Microsoft to get the Original product key for Windows 7. Can anyone pl suggest what is the best way to get my Product key?
