Microphone extremely quiet through 3.5mm jack

Hi. I got a new HP laptop (Victus 16dx000) and installed a Linux distro on it, where audio worked completely fine. Now I changed to windows 11 and I am having problems with my microphone volume, it's extremely quiet and nobody can hear me. I tried updating drivers (both from HP's site, Realtek's site and ones from Intel). I had the same microphone on another laptop with windows 11 (a lenovo) without any problems.

In the Recording Devices panel it seems that there is no difference between setting it to 100 or 1 volume, but setting it to 0 does completely mute the microphone.

I also tried a BT headset and that one seems to work perfectly fine.

Bluetooth mic making volume extremely quiet

When I tried using the microphone on my Bluetooth headset (Sony WH-1000XM4), the volume got super quiet and I could barely even hear it, even when I had the volume all the way up. And when I'm not using the mic the volume is fine. I know this started happening recently because when I used it less than a week ago the volume was fine. I believe it might be due to an update I installed a few days ago but I'm unsure.

    Thank you,

Bluetooth mic making volume extremely quiet

    Hello

My name is Michael Carroll, and I am a Microsoft Independent Advisor. I'd be more than happy to assist you. I'm so sorry that you are experiencing this issue. Don't worry; I'll do everything I can to help you.

When your Bluetooth microphone suddenly becomes extremely quiet on your Sony WH-1000XM4 headset, especially after a recent update, here are some troubleshooting steps you can try:

    1. Check Microphone Settings

    Windows Settings:

Right-click on the speaker icon in the system tray and select Open Sound settings.

Under Input, make sure your Bluetooth headset is selected as the input device. Adjust the input volume slider to ensure it's not set too low.

Click on Device properties and navigate to the Levels tab. Ensure the microphone level is set appropriately (usually 100%).

    Device Manager:

Right-click on the Start menu and select Device Manager.

Expand Audio inputs and outputs, find your Bluetooth headset, right-click on it, and select Properties.

In the Levels tab, adjust the microphone level if needed.

    2. Update Audio Drivers

Outdated or incompatible audio drivers can sometimes cause issues with microphone volume. Update your audio drivers to the latest version:

Device Manager: Right-click on your audio device and select Update driver.

    3. Reset Bluetooth Settings

Sometimes resetting the Bluetooth connection can resolve connectivity or volume issues:

Turn off Bluetooth on your computer and headset.

    Restart your computer.

Turn on Bluetooth on both devices and pair them again.

    4. Check Headset Firmware

Ensure your Sony WH-1000XM4 headset is running the latest firmware version. Manufacturers often release firmware updates to fix bugs and improve performance:

Use the Sony Headphones Connect app on your smartphone or visit the Sony support website to check for and install any available updates.

    5. Test on Another Device

Test your Sony headset on another device (e.g., smartphone, tablet) to see if the microphone volume issue persists. This helps determine if the problem is with the headset or your computer.

    6. Rollback Windows Update (if applicable)

If you suspect a recent Windows update caused the issue, you can try rolling back to a previous restore point or uninstalling the update:

Settings: Go to Settings > Update & Security > Recovery > Go back to the previous version of Windows.

    7. Contact Support

If none of the above steps resolve the issue, consider contacting Sony support for further assistance. They can provide more specific guidance or solutions tailored to your headset model.

By following these troubleshooting steps, you should be able to diagnose and potentially fix the issue with your Bluetooth microphone volume on your Sony WH-1000XM4 headset.

I hope these steps help you resolve the issue. If you still have problems, please reply with any missing details, screenshots, and other important information needed.
