    Hibernation problem

I have 2 PCs, both running Windows 10 Home. My older one is a quad-core i7 and the new one is a 6-core i7 Dell XPS. Both desktops have been updated to the latest Windows update stuff but I'm having a hibernation problem on the Dell.

When I hibernate my old PC, clicking on hibernate causes the screen to display "Hibernating" for a second or two before the screen goes blank and then the PC shuts down. When I power it back up, it restores the Desktop with all apps that were open at the time when I hibernated restored at the point I did hibernate the PC. This is all done in less than a minute.

However, on my Dell XPS, when I click on hibernate, the screen displays "Locking" for a second or two before going blank and then shutting down. But, when I power back up, it takes a couple of minutes for it to restore the Desktop, but none of the apps that were open at the time of hibernation is running. Power settings on both PCs are identical yet the Dell is misbehaving. Let me point out that prior to a major Win10 OS Update a few months ago, the Dell did hibernate properly and more importantly, when I powered back up, it restored the Desktop and all apps in about 35 seconds! I was very pleased with it at that time, but needless to say, I'm very disappointed now because my old first gen i7 PC is actually outperforming my XPS that has a faster CPU and 16Gb of Optane Memory.

Any ideas on what may be wrong is appreciated. Thanks in advance!

    :)

    hibernating/password

    Hello Rich,

One possible reason why your system keeps hibernating or goes to sleep is because of the power plan settings of your computer. To assist you with your concern regarding your PC hibernating, we recommend that you reconfigure the power plan settings by following
    the steps below:

    • Type Display on Cortana's search field and press
      Enter.
    • Select Power & sleep.
    • Under the Sleep option, click the drop down menu to set the number of minutes/hours you would like your PC to sleep/hibernate. We suggest that you select
Never if you do not want you system to hibernate.
    • Close all windows for the changes to take effect.

Let us know if you will need further assistance.
