Windows 10: Hidden Locked file inside of Windows Defender Folder

Hi, I recently noticed that there was a strange .lock file inside of my windows defender folder. The hidden file is called " IMpService77BDAF73-B396-481F-9042-AD358843Ec24.lock" and I was wondering if anyone had any information on what this file was or why it's in my programdata/microsoft/windows defender directory.

I tried looking up on google to see if anyone had any information on the file but the only thing I was able to find was this post from 2014: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us...ec24lock/c7118687-d98f-4b59-9b5e-ac75c528c050 Where the support agent concludes that a virus has infected all of their services, which is why their windows defender isn't running.

In my case though, my windows defender seems to be running without any issue at all. It's outputting hourly real-time protection events to event viewer, it's running scans and updating automatically or when I tell it to. Along with this I also ran quite a few second opinion scanners (Hitmanpro, ESET online scanner, Malwarebytes, Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool, Adwcleaner, and Kaspersky Virus Removal Tool), all of which came back mostly negative (HitmanPro found a few tracking cookies). So I'm not exactly sure if this is a sign that "All of my services have been infected" like the post from 2014 said. I've tried deleting the file, and it says that it's unable to because it is in use by windows defender. If anyone has any information on what this file is or why it's in my windows defender folder please let me know, thanks!

Hidden folders

I installed `Kane and Lynch` on my PC twice in Program Files(x86) folder but I can`t find them (2 folders with game). But free space on my HDD is lower. So there`re those folders on my hdd. I use option `unhide` hidden folders but still can`t find them. Any suggestions? How can i delete those hidden folders?

When I run istallation for this game I can see those folders in Program Files(x86) folde.

I`m using Win 7 Ultimate 64 bit.

 

How to make a Uber Hidden Folder

yeah but if you search within windows search can u still be able to find files you put in it like say porn or somthing like that. that you can hide from the g/f or wife lol

 

All hidden files turned Un-hidden

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community and being part of Windows 10.

I suggest you to re-add them to the hidden items list and check.

Steps:

• Right click on the folders to hide, select Properties.
• Go to General tab, under Attributes check mark the option
  Hidden.
• Click on Apply and on Ok.

I suggest you not to use any third party anti-virus software. Try to use Windows Defender.
