Windows 10: Hidden windows problem

I have a Lenovo desktop which recently had a hard drive problem which was fixed by a PC repair guy, but since Windows 10 was reinstalled i have several problems - the main one being that windows are hidden.


I have gone through all the usual solutions but none of them work. The programs are open - I can see them when I ALT-TAB and when I hover over taskbar - but i can't get to them to use them.


Another common problem is that there are no desktop icons to click on. After several restarts they usually come back. I have done all the usual diagnostics checking that "display icons" is ticked etc but to no avail.


Any ideas on resolving this? Last time I could get to the Settings screen I can't reach it at the moment it said the PC was up to date with all Windows updates.


Any thoughts? PC repair guy told me it might be because certain machines can't handle Windows 10 unless that's what they had originally. This PC is about 3 or 4 years old and so it may have had the precursor to Windows 10 when i bought it.

All hidden files turned Un-hidden

Hi,

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community and being part of Windows 10.

I suggest you to re-add them to the hidden items list and check.

Steps:

• Right click on the folders to hide, select Properties.
• Go to General tab, under Attributes check mark the option
  Hidden.
• Click on Apply and on Ok.

I suggest you not to use any third party anti-virus software. Try to use Windows Defender.

Uninstall problem


Open the Admin Command Prompt:

1. diskpart
2. List disk
3. select disk # where # is the disk that contains hidden partitions
4. list par
5. select partition #
6. delete partition OVERRIDE
7. repeat steps 5 & 6 for the additional hidden partitions.
8. exit

OR:
if you want to clean the whole disk, after step 3 above
Type: clean
Type: exit

 

Windows 10 1709 System Restore problems...

That seems to be an attempt at Option 2 in the tutorial, which requires you to
a. Boot to a command prompt (Did you?)
b. You then seem to be mixing steps 3,4 and 5, thus your command is incorrect.

I suggest Option 1 is easier.
