    Hide Extensions for Known File Types Permanently


    I just installed Windows 11 the other day. I want to hide extensions for known file types in file explorer. I check the box in the view tab in the folder options. I apply to folders. In an hour or so after doing this, the extensions return and I have to check the box again. I have now done this about 20 times in the last few days. Is this a glitch in Windows 11?

    I still can't see .exe extension all the others are ok.

    This just now happened; the .exe extensions where showing before...

    I must have changed something by mistake.

    Can anybody help me I get them back?

    Unable to hide extension for known file types

    Hi,

    I'm unable to hide the extension for known file types. I've tried this through view panel but unable to uncheck the box. I even tried to edit through it registry but getting error as " Can not edit hidefileext". The special permission is grayed out for me.

    I performed a virus scan but couldn't detect any virus.

    Please help as this is getting annoying now.
