Windows 10: Hide Microsoft weather & news pop-up in taskbar

recently this weather and new widget showed up in my taskbar and I'm not able to figure out how to hide it. It's not hidden when I select do not show cortana. It seems to be a microsoft driven add-on because the bottom says "Microsoft News" and it opens msn on any link I click. It auto-expands when you hover over it and it's blocking important widget space like battery. Feels like it behaves more like a virus than a microsoft add-on but I'm quite sure my system's clean.

Did you try the “Auto-hide the taskbar” option from Taskbar properties?



If you have not tried it, I would suggest you to follow these steps and auto-hide the taskbar:

• Right click on Taskbar.
• Click on Properties
• Check the box Auto-hide the taskbar.
• Click on OK.

Are you referring to taskbar preview window pop-ups?



If yes, there is no option to disable the taskbar window pop-ups when you hover the mouse, this is by design.

However you may Auto-hide taskbar by following the below steps and check if it helps.

• 
  Right click on the taskbar and select properties.
  
• 
  In the Taskbar tab, Place a tick mark for Auto-hide the taskbar.
  

You may provide your suggestions in the feedback app.

Follow the steps:

• Go to Start, enter the phrase Windows Feedback, and then select Windows Feedback.
• See if someone else has given similar feedback by entering the topic, such as Microsoft Music.

• To narrow your search to a specific category, pick the category that most closely matches your feedback (so it gets to the right people quickly). For example, for feedback about the Music app, select Apps > Music.

hide the taskbar

follow these steps

1. On any blank area of your Windows 10 taskbar, right click to reveal a list of menu options.

2. At the bottom of the list of options, click on Taskbar settings.

3. In the Taskbar menu, ensure that the option for "Automatically hide the taskbar in desktop mode" is enabled by clicking to turn the small lever to the right of the option blue.

4. Your taskbar should disappear automatically once the hide options are enabled.
