How to Hide or Show Tab Preview Bar in Microsoft Edge in Windows 10


Information Microsoft Edge is a new web browser that is available across the Windows 10 device family. It is designed for Windows 10 to be faster, safer, and compatible with the modern Web.

The tab preview feature was introduced in Microsoft Edge starting with Window 10 build 10565 that allows you to hover over your open tabs in Microsoft Edge to see a preview of the webpage for the tab.

Starting with Windows 10 Creators Update build 15002, a tab preview bar has been added to the top of Microsoft Edge.

This tutorial will show you how to hide or show the tab preview bar in Microsoft Edge for your account in Windows 10.

OPTION ONE [/i] To Hide or Show Tab Preview Bar in Microsoft Edge from within Microsoft Edge
1. While in Microsoft Edge, click/tap on the Hide tab previews

or Show tab previews

Note The .reg files below will modify the DWORD value in the registry key below.

Code:

ShowTabPreviewBarOnStartup DWORD

0 = Hide
1 = Show


1. Do step 2 (hide) or step 3 (show) below for what you would like to do.


2. To Hide Tab Preview Bar in Microsoft Edge
A) Click/tap on the Download button below to download the file below, and go to step 4 below.

3. To Show Tab Preview Bar in Microsoft Edge
A) Click/tap on the Download button below to download the file below, and go to step 4 below.

4. Save the .reg file to your desktop.

5. Double click/tap on the downloaded .reg file to merge it.

6. If prompted, click on Run, Yes (UAC), Yes, and OK to approve the merge.

7. If Microsoft Edge is currently open, then close and reopen Microsoft Edge to apply.

8. You can now delete the downloaded .reg file if you like.

Hello winactive,

It appears this option no longer works in Creators Update.

However, as a workaround, you can set the TabPeekShowDelay DWORD value to a high value like 1000000 in Option Two of the tutorial below to effectively disable tab previews in Microsoft Edge.

Thanks for the reply. The 'hover' previews I don't actually mind, it's more the down arrow '˅' next to the new tab '+' that opens that horrible chasm that has to be clicked back to dismiss.

Setting the Preview pane to show or hide in File Explorer will apply to all folders. If you wish to hide the Preview pane in File Explorer, we suggest that you follow the steps below:

• Open File Explorer.
• Tap on View tab.
• Click Preview Pane to view/hide it.

Microsoft Edge Address Bar

Hi Zach,

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community. We appreciate your interest in Windows 10.

I suggest you to follow the below steps to open actual address of websites with short forms as you wish:

• Open Microsoft Edge, click on More actions(...) at the right top corner.
• Click on View advanced settings, under Search in the address bar with
  click on down arrow.
• Choose <add new>, try to add the default website.

Secondly, as opening pages in new tab is set by design, I suggest you to provide this as a feedback.

Edge taskbar preview only showing first tab.

My problem is that the Edge thumbnail preview that displays when hovering over the icon on the taskbar only shows the active tab in each window, instead of all tabs. This started after I had an issue were Edge opened off screen (running multiple displays).
I had to use shift + right click Move to get it back. That's when it stopped showing all the tabs in the preview. It still shows the different windows I have open, but only the active tab on each window. Internet Explorer still shows all the open tabs in
the taskbar preview. The taskbar preview works for all other programs I tried so the problem seems to be isolated to Edge. I was able to narrow it down to about a 15 minute window of when the change occurred so if there are any event logs that might shed
light on what happened.
