Windows 10: High CPU usage of System ntoskrnl.exe process when plugged in charger

Here is the setup that consistently, 100% of the time on my PC reproduces the experience:

My laptop is connected to its charger which has a USB-C port. Whenever I leave the laptop alone, i.e. I do not move the cursor, press any buttons etc., the CPU usage naturally is very low in the beginning. However, if I leave it in this state, if I leave it completely idle without me touching the PC at all WITH the power charger connected, then after a while the laptop will constantly be using around 20%-27% CPU due to this process I found it after debugging:


ntoskrnl.exe!PsReturnProcessNonPagedPoolQuota+0xbd0


In task manager, this simply shows up as "System". I have tried disabling all startup-programs, locating the source of the high CPU; I've tried some terminal work, although at this point, I've tried so many different things that I can't recall all the individual specifics. I’ve also done sfc /scannow in admin command prompt, but that simply shows “no integrity violations”. It is very annoying because I can never leave the PC charging on itself because it will start producing excessive noise due to the fan having to cool the processor when really the processor shouldn't be using or doing anything. I've also tried installing several antimalware-services, doing complete scans, and using Windows defender, but to no prevail, so there doesn't seem to be any malware causing this as far as I can tell. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated


Extra note: i factory reset the entire PC, and the problem is still here

To fix high CPU usage issue, please refer these steps:

Try to identify the process creating this issue.

Download Process Explorer from Microsoft:

Process Explorer - Windows Sysinternals

Run the tool then select the system process, right-click and select Properties.

Switch to the Threads tab. This will show which file is using the excessive CPU usage, from which you can then attempt to diagnose it.

ntoskrnl High CPU usage


Hello Guys , im strugling for few days with this and no luck.

ntoskrnl is constantly using 1 of cores as shown below.






Process name is System and compressed memory, and is pointing to ntoskrnl






Im using laptop Samsung np350v5c-s0dpl
i7 3630qm
8gm ram
Intel Hd graphics 4000
Amd Radeon 7600M
-----------------------------------

What's more interesting , this started after i swaped my DVD drive with HDD.. when i run only with SSD in mail slot it;s normal.
Already try clean install but still the same.
