High CPU usage when watching youtube videos

Title explains it all. Usually around 80-90% total CPU usage. Chrome uses 60-70% usually. I feel my CPU is not that weak, and when I'm typing documents or browsing other websites, the CPU usage is around 5-10% on average. Does anyone else have this issue? Any way to fix it? My laptop has similar CPU specs but it does not use 80-90% CPU when watching youtube videos. The main difference is that my laptop has Windows 10 but my desktop has Windows 11.Specs areHigh CPU usage when watching youtube videos :Dell Precision 3431Intel Core i5 9500Intel UHD Graphics 6308GB DDR4 2666 RAM512GB SSDWindows 11 Pro

  2. High CPU usage Microsoft Edge on video Streaming

    Hi Sibtain,

Let's try to isolate the cause of this issue with the high CPU usage in Edge. We suggest that you clear your browsing data. Clearing your browsing data will help improve the performance of Edge. To clear, kindly follow the steps below:

    • Open Edge.
    • Click on the three dots icon on the upper-right part of the screen.
    • Click Settings.
    • Under Clear browsing data, click on Choose what to clear.

Streaming Video and High CPU usage on Windows 10

When watching streaming video in any web browser EXCEPT Edge, I'm seeing extremely high CPU usage. This is on multiple machines and results in video playback performance issues (depending on the machine). These are all machines which have been upgraded to
Windows 10 from either Windows 7 or Windows 8.1 and none of them had trouble with video before the upgrade.

The CPU usage is based on the resolution of the video. For instance, on a laptop with integrated GPU (i7-5600U/Intel HD 5500) 480p YouTube uses about 25% CPU and playback is no problem, but 720p eats up over 80% and 1080p pegs out all threads at 100%. These
higher-resolution videos will stutter or lag and the player UI also becomes unresponsive. On an Atom Z3775 tablet, 720p will peg the CPU, although playback is still acceptable. On my desktop system with a much older CPU (i7-920) but much more powerful graphics
(GTX 780) the effect is much less prominent, maxing out at around 25% CPU and no performance trouble for even 4k video, but this is still more CPU usage than I observed with this machine under Windows 7. I've seen similar CPU usage changes on a couple of other
boxes as well, with varying degrees of usage/performance.

Oddly, Edge does not exhibit the problem at all - playback is perfect at all resolutions and the CPU barely moves during video playback except on the tablet (which is by far the least powerful of the machines). All other browsers I have tried (Chrome, Firefox,
IE, Opera) give me trouble. Local video played in media player, VLC, or any other media player I've tried doesn't seem to be an issue. CPU usage in this scenario is similar to what I saw under the previous OS version.

And yes, I've installed the latest version of the video drivers for each machine. Anyone have any other ideas?
