unsual high cpu usage of regsvr32.exe

    Hi,

Thank you for posting to Microsoft Community.

I understand that you are facing an issue with high CPU usage of the regsvr32.exe. In order to get clarity and to assist you accordingly, please reply with the answers to the questions below.

    1. What is the make and model of your system?
    2. Which build of Windows 10 is running on your system? To check that, click on
      Start, type winver and press
      Enter.
    3. Was there any major change or an update on your system, prior to which you weren’t facing this issue?

The regsvr32.exe or the Microsoft Register Server is a command line utility for Windows operating system. This is used to register an unregister ActiveX objects and DLLs with respect to applications. This is a part of Windows and
it is needed for the proper functioning of the OS. If there is a high CPU usage due to the regsvr32.exe, then it may be due to an application or a process that is constantly trying to reach the Register Server in order to access the DLL or other objects for
    its appropriate functioning.

Hence we will need to isolate the root cause of this issue and then proceed with the troubleshooting steps accordingly. To do that I would suggest you to follow the methods below.

Method 1: Start your system in Safe Mode.

Safe mode starts Windows in a basic state, using a limited set of files and drivers. If a problem doesn't happen in safe mode, this means that default settings and basic device drivers aren't causing the issue. You can refer the
    article to
Start your PC in safe mode in Windows 10
, follow the section ‘From Settings’ and check if the issue still persists in safe mode. If not, please proceed to Method 2.

Note: To exit the safe mode, follow the 'Note' section within the same article provided above.

Method 2: Checking through clean boot.

Disclaimer - A ‘clean boot’ starts Windows with a minimal set of drivers and startup programs, so that you can determine whether a background program is interfering with the normal
functioning of your system. Your computer may temporarily lose some functionality while in a clean boot environment, however that functionality will return when you reset the computer to start normally after you have finished your troubleshooting.

You can check this article on
How to perform a clean boot in Windows
to start your system in clean boot and then please follow the section ‘How to determine what is causing the problem after you do a clean boot’ to proceed with the troubleshooting.

Note: To start your system in normal mode, you can refer the section 'Reset the computer to start normally after clean boot troubleshooting'.

If the issue still persists, please reply to us with the results of the troubleshooting steps suggested above as well. We will look into this for you and we will be glad to assist you with this.
