    High processor usage by indexer

    Hello,

My computer tends to use a lot of resources for indexing items. I checked under "Indexing Options" and the message "Indexing Complete" will appear. But, the next time I wake my laptop, the process will be highly active again. I have turned off the service because it's not critical. But, it would be nice to have it run in the background without constantly making my fans come on and take up lots of processing power resulting in lower battery life. Any suggestions?

    :)

  2. High Usage of Memory and CPU

Dear community, I need help in fixing high usage of CPU by "Microsoft Windows Search Index" and high usage of CPU by "Search" . I've tried some methods from browsing, but it still won't help to reduce the usage.

For "Microsoft Windows Search Index", I've tried to rebuild the indexing and already finished indexing, but it won't reduce the usage.

Please help me to resolve this, because those two affects my laptop performance and sometimes they stall some of my programs.

    Thank you in advance.

"System compressed memory" Use 40% CPU all the time

Has anyone checked Event Viewer to see if any processes were failing? I experienced some high CPU usage when Windows Metadata kept trying to index files. I reset the index and the problem seemed to go away after a power cycle.

Hello, I guess you mean searchindexer.exe.

As you know, it shouldn't be using CPU time if indexing is complete- and to confirm, it doesn't on my PC.
The following suggests, for example, there may be a specific file it's struggling with- if you can identify that, you can solve your problem.

    http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/w...9-b2af07c198fd
Offers some ways of analysing this and one particular case where this was solved. You may have sthg similar.

SearchIndexer.exe taking up 15-20% CPU after indexing complete
    - another way of analysing this- and another specific solution

You may find more if that's not enough to point you in the right direction by searching generally for
    searchindexer.exe CPU time

If it's an indexed file that is causing the problem you may be able to identify that by restricting progressively what's indexed.
Note: if changing indexed options note that searching Settings successfully depends on something indexed in Users.

So best back up appropriately before changing things, as ever.
