High RAM Usage on Idle W10 - Tried Poolmon/Tips of Forum Didn't Work

    Hi all.

I use a notebook with Windows 10 (1607/14393.82) on my work. My problem is that it uses so much RAM on idle, at least I think it uses more than normal and when I really need to use with some multitasking, it faults me. When I use the Edge, with some tabs open, the e-mail app and desktop remote connection (which I use the most to work) it "lags" a little and I need to wait or close some things to use again.

On task manager the problems point to the RAM. I searched on the forum for some tips and used the poolmon tip, but it only showed to me a 40MB non-paged process.

I appreciate any help. I'll leave the specs and some screenshots (and sorry for the bad english):

    Windows 10 1607 - 14393.82
    Intel Core i5-5200U 2.20Ghz
    4GB RAM DDR3
    1TB HDD
Dell Inspiron 3543 (from Brazil and formatted to remove all the crapware)
    I only browse with Edge

    High Memory Usage

    Dear All,

I always have High Memory Usage on my laptop as it is idling.

Please advise on how do I troubleshoot the high memory usage in order to resolve it?

Please advise whether I should be getting more RAM instead?

Windows 10 - service host: local system High Memory Usage

I have been having a problem for the past 3 months and it gets really annoying as I couldn't find a way to fix this. When I opened Task Manager I saw a very high usage of memory (6GB of my RAM) by the service called 'service host: local system (number of
services)'. I though it is just a temporary bug and waited for a new update, hoping this will fix it but unfortunately it didn't. I searched the problem in other forums but it seems not meny people have this problem on their PCs, and the solutions that I have
seen in other forums didn't work on my PC. First thing I found out is that one of the services under service host: local system called 'windows push notification system service' is causing this 6GB of memory usage even when the PC is idle, as when I disabled
it the memory usage when down to about 50MB. Then I restarted my PC and saw that my RAM usage is increasing by 0.1-0.2MB per second until it reaches 6GB(It was taken by another service 'user profile service'. I even disabled this service and then the high
RAM usage was taken by another service(all of them under service host: local system). I even disabled all of the services I could but still it didn't work. First I tried this:

Open up an elevated Command Prompt by typing "CMD" in Start, right-clicking on the first option, and selecting "Run as administrator." Enter "sfc /scannow." After this, enter "Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth".

It didn't work. Also I run several anti-malware and adware softwares - they didn't find any malwares or adwares or spywares. I also run some error fixing programs which couldn't fix the problem. My antivirus 'ESET Nod 32 Antivirus 9' didn't find any
viruses. So the only thing left is but in the OS. And this problem appeared after updating to anniversary.

As you can see windows push notification system service is not running but still high memory usage.

    Memory
Usage increased after a minute. And like this it keeps increasing until reaching 6500MB max.

If someone has a real solution for this problem please share!

Actually, I don't think there's a problem mainly because Windows likes as much memory as it can get and also because there's always something running in the background. Two ways I prevent problems with RAM/Random Access Memory is to use the written recommended [in Windows, Help and Support] of 1.5 Times the physical RAM for the Virtual Memory/paging file and also to run 6GB or 8GB RAM depending upon the maximum allowed by the motherboard. I know there's a cost involved that some folks can't deal with.

  5. It would be better to take screen when you are using those apps and it lags, as said before idle RAM usage seems normal.

You could disable Superfetch, Windows search, indexing, at the cost of limited functionality, you would regain some RAM.

1.4 GB memory usage on a 4 GB 64 bit system does not seem unusual. Memory usage in any modern OS is highly dynamic. Idle usage might seem high but that is only because there is no better use for it. Memory was meant to be used, not sit idle. But if you load a large application this usage will be automatically trimmed back to meet the demand. I have seen this happen many times.

The 4.8 GB commit limit indicates that the pagefile is only about .8 GB which is rather small. This could cause problems in some situations. Better to set the pagefile to system managed.

A TairikuOkami mentioned a screenshot during idle doesn't tell us very much. Unless it is abnormal, which it isn't.

Memory used by Superfetch is on the standby list and will be shown as available.

Thank you all. Like I said, I think this is a little strange. My home PC has 8GB and it sits between 16~18%. So can I consider it's the same value and everything is ok in my work?

And here is the image with some tabs open, see how high is the RAM:

I think it is obvious, that Edge is at fault, you might consider using other browser, at least during the remote session.

Just to be clear, I use the remote desktop to access a program through VPN. The Edge is on the machine that I use, not the one that I connect. Now about the programs, I had the chrome and suffered the same problem. Since the network where I work is blocked, I don't have free access on all sites and some features online (update a program, for example). Firefox and Opera aren't my type. So I'll only try to familiarize with this "problem".

Since everything is under normal conditions, I'll not try the suggestions that @TairikuOkami had mentioned. Thanks anyway.
